Job summary

Royal Bank of Canada is seeking a patient and enthusiastic tutor to support students with learning disabilities, autism, and various learning needs in a Vancouver setting.

The tutor will assess individual strengths, develop tailored lesson plans, and collaborate with parents and professionals to foster academic progress and confidence.

Qualifications

  • Candidates have experience with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, or related differences.
  • Ability to work with elementary and secondary students as needed.
  • Patient, encouraging, and able to build rapport with students.
  • Experience with IEPs, assistive technology, or specialized learning strategies is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Assess the student’s academic strengths, challenges, and learning needs.
  • Develop individualized tutoring strategies and lesson plans.
  • Support students with homework, assignments, projects, test preparation, and academic skills.
  • Teach and reinforce study skills, organization, time management, note-taking, and test-taking strategies.
  • Use a variety of teaching approaches and accommodations to help the student understand and retain information.
  • Break down complex concepts into manageable steps.
  • Provide positive, constructive feedback and encouragement.
  • Help students develop confidence, independence, and effective learning habits.
  • Monitor and communicate the student’s progress to parents or caregivers.
  • Maintain a patient, respectful, and inclusive approach at all times.

We are seeking an experienced, patient, and enthusiastic tutor to support students with learning disabilities, autism, and other diverse learning needs.

Ideal Tutor
  • Have experience working with students with learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, or other learning differences.
  • Be confident supporting students at the elementary or secondary school level, depending on the student's needs.
  • Be patient, encouraging, energetic, and able to build a positive rapport with students.
  • Adapt teaching methods and learning strategies to suit each student's individual strengths, needs, and learning style.
  • Be flexible and able to adjust lessons based on the student's engagement, abilities, and progress.
  • Have strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be comfortable working collaboratively with parents, caregivers, and other professionals when appropriate.
  • Have excellent English communication skills.
  • Be able to create a supportive, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.

Students we support may have a range of learning needs, including learning disabilities, autism, ADHD, executive functioning challenges, anxiety, sensory processing differences, communication challenges, dysgraphia, or other exceptionalities.
