Job summary

RBC in Toronto invites a Winter 2027 Student placement for a Data Scientist/Analyst co‑op. Join the ECT AI and Automation team to work on analytics, learning new tools, and applying data science to real business problems.

You will support Enterprise Control Testing, design data‑driven solutions, and communicate results with visualizations to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Strong Python, SQL, and Git are expected in a fast‑paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post-secondary institution with focus on Data/CS/Math/Engineering or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self-driven and can work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong coding abilities.
  • Strong data profiling, cleaning, mining and technical documentation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python and SQL.
  • Hands-on experience with git/version control.

Responsibilities

  • Learn new tools quickly and apply them to daily analytics exercises.
  • Provide analytics support to Enterprise Control Testing and collaborate with business/technical units to identify opportunities and design solutions.
  • Implement heuristic methods, data mining and statistical analysis using Python and other tools.
  • Leverage visualization tools to communicate findings to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Translate data-driven insights into decisions and actions with a clear narrative.
  • Handle challenging initiatives using statistics or heuristic approaches to solve problems.

Our mandate is to enable data science and automated solution that help our team to accelerate our processes and reduce completion time in manual work.

We are seeking a co‑op who thrives on thinking outside the box, delves deep into details, and is passionate about exploring innovative approaches to solve business problems. If you’re ready to contribute to our initiatives and be part of a team that values continuous learning, we want you on board!

What will you do?
  • Be able to quickly learn new tools and technologies and use them in the daily analytics exercises
  • Provide analytics support to all Enterprise Control Testing. This involves collaborating proactively with various business and technical units to identify business opportunities and designing innovative solutions to optimize processes and promote informed decision‑making.
  • Implement heuristic approaches, data mining methods, and statistical analysis using Python and/or other tools.
  • Leverage visualization tools/packages to effectively communicate findings to technical and non‑technical audiences.
  • Enable data‑driven insights to be translated into decisions and actions by telling a convincing story.
  • Working on challenging initiatives using statistics or heuristic approaches that help solving the problem at hand.
What do you need to succeed?
Must‑have
  • Currently enrolled at a Canadian post‑secondary institution with a focus on Data/Computer Science, Mathematics/Statistics, Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Excellent interpersonal and highly developed communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Creative and analytical thinker who is self‑driven and capable of working in a fast‑paced environment
  • Strong coding abilities
  • Strong data profiling, cleaning, mining and technical documentation skills.
  • Strong working knowledge of Python and SQL
  • Hands‑on experience with git/version control
Nice‑to‑have

Experience with:

  • Linux environment and shell scripting is a plus
  • NLP‑based algorithms
  • AI solutions/development is a plus
  • Software engineering background with a focus on statistics and/or analytics

Please note: This posting is for a 4‑months Winter 2027 Student placement with a start date of January 2027, and end date of April 2027. In order to be eligible for this 4‑months Student position, you must either:

  • Be returning back to school after the work term end‑date of April 2027 ; or
  • If you are not returning back to school (i.e. are graduating in April 2027), you must require the full 4‑months work term as a mandatory component to in order to graduate successfully.
