Job summary

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC) is seeking a Process Re-Engineering Intern for a 4-month Winter placement on the CFO Data & Automation team. You will support transforming Finance processes, analyzing workflows, and contributing to automation using RPA and low-code/no-code tools.

You will collaborate with Finance teams across Canada, learning sustainable automation techniques, and helping to unlock capacity for higher-value work while delivering practical project outcomes.

Qualifications

• Must have or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or related field.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to understand complexity and design solutions.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic VBA or willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Support Finance stakeholders in assessing and analyzing processes.
• Assist in identifying redesign and automation opportunities under mentorship.
• Contribute to automation delivery using RPA and other tools, assisting with requirements gathering, testing, and implementation.
• Help develop frameworks and methodologies for process improvement and automation pipeline management.
• Assist Finance leaders by researching and documenting automation and efficiency opportunities.
• Support the promotion of self-service automation and help upskill Finance staff on low-code/no-code tools through documentation and training materials.
• Help ensure automated processes are well-documented, controlled, and compliant with audit standards.
• Contribute to team learning and capability development through active participation.

What is the opportunity?

We are seeking a Process Re-Engineering Intern to join our CFO Data & Automation team for a 4-month Winter placement. This role offers an excellent opportunity to support the transformation of Finance processes by helping identify, analyze, and automate workflows. You will gain hands-on exposure to RPA, low-code/no-code platforms, and other automation tools while working alongside experienced specialists. This position combines strategic learning with practical project delivery, allowing you to contribute meaningfully while developing automation and process improvement skills. You will collaborate with Finance teams across the organization, supporting them in reimagining processes, learning about sustainable automation, and understanding how to unlock capacity for higher-value work.

What you need to succeed?

• Must Have: Currently enrolled in or recently completed a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Computer Science, or related field
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to understand complexity and assist in designing solutions
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including basic VBA or willingness to learn
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders and manage multiple tasks effectively
• Nice to Have: Basic experience or knowledge of Python (Pandas, Sqlalchemy, Numpy, Selenium packages)
• Familiarity with automation tools (Blue Prism, UiPath, Power Automate, or Alteryx)
• Experience or interest in RBC IT systems and platforms (Peoplesoft, Pega, Confluence, ServiceNow)
• Knowledge of Finance processes (month-end closing, financial disclosures, adjustment entries)
• Previous internship or project experience in process improvement or business analysis
