Avanti Software Inc. is seeking a Program Coordinator in Selkirk, MB to lead community programs in aquatics, recreation, sport, and fitness.

You will assess resident needs, coordinate initiatives, and liaise with community groups and City departments to deliver services. The role requires a degree in Recreation/Kinesiology/Physical Education or equivalent, plus supervisory experience in a municipal setting, and proficiency with MS Office and grant processes.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Recreation, Kinesiology or Physical Education or equivalent of education and experience.
  • Successful completion of courses in Community Program Development, Community Program Marketing, Community Leadership Development, Record Keeping and Program Budgeting.
  • 2 years progressive supervisory experience, preferably municipal.
  • Valid Class 5 Manitoba Driver's License.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet research.
  • Clear communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Experience seeking grants and completing reports.
  • Experience working with the community at large, including youth.
  • Ability to understand and interpret Corporation policies.
  • Adaptable to change with dynamic problem solving.
  • Attention to detail across multiple projects.
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check.

Responsibilities

  • Program Coordination: manage and evaluate programs; liaise with organizations; market community programs.
  • Administrative: assist annual budget, grants, policies, and reports; prepare agendas and minutes.
  • Supervisory: recruit, plan, supervise, and evaluate casual employees and volunteers.
  • Coordinate culture and heritage programs as part of the Culture, Recreation and Green Transportation team.
  • Provide support in City Emergency Plan as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Rates of Pay

  • Step 1 - $33.78
  • Step 2 - $34.46
  • Step 3 - $35.15

Placement of applicant based on the collective agreement

Hours of Work: 40 hours per week

Employment Type: 18-20-month term position

The Opportunity

The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Program Coordinator to join our team. Under the general direction of the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs the Program Coordinator will determine the needs, interests and opportunities of city residents in the areas of programs and initiatives related to aquatics, recreation, sports, and fitness.

Job Duties
  • Program Coordination - Responsible for managing, monitoring and evaluating programs to provide the necessary data to assess the ongoing viability of community programs and initiatives and prepare reports as directed by the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs. Research, assess and recommend community programming needs and interests. Develop procedures and determine materials required for the facilitation of these services which would be delivered by community groups/organizations or through the direct provision of services. Liaise with community and regional organizations providing programs and initiatives. Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team to communicate, coordinate and market community and City programs in the areas of aquatics, recreation, sport, and fitness.
  • Administrative - Assist in the preparation of the annual operating budget for the provision of programs and initiatives within the community. Actively seek funding opportunities including grant sourcing/application in relation to programs and initiatives. Assist in the development, implementation, application and review of the Department policies and cost-effective delivery objectives related to programs and initiatives. Provide the administrative support which includes the preparation of agendas, minutes, financial reports and correspondence which may be directed by the Age Friendly, and the Fair-Trade Committee. Attend meetings as directed by the Manager of Cultural and Recreational Programs.
  • Supervisory - Actively seek to recruit, plan, assign, supervise and evaluate the work of assigned casual employees, volunteers and contractors in the areas of responsibility within programs and initiatives. Ensure the continual development of leadership training opportunities for program personnel plus community groups/organizations, leaders and instructors/coaches who provide programs and initiatives. Ensure that all necessary records of work task assignments and daily time sheets of assigned employees are maintained and submitted on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist with the coordination of culture and heritage programs and initiatives as required as a member of the Culture, Recreation and Green Transportation team.
  • Provide support services within the City of Selkirk Emergency Plan in the event of an emergency as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

  • Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Experience seeking grant opportunities and completing applications and reports
  • Experience working with the community at large, including youth, preferably in a municipal setting
  • Must possess the ability to understand and interpret the policies of the Corporation
  • Must be adaptable to change and possess the ability to generate dynamic solutions
  • Must exhibit attention to detail skills while overseeing multiple projects and tasks
  • Clear Criminal Reference Check
  • Clear Child Abuse Registry Check
  • Must be physically able to perform all the clerical aspects or physical duties associated with the position
