Speech Language Pathologist - Temporary Position

We are excited to have a Temporary Speech Language Pathologist opportunity available December 2024 - June 2026.

Lethbridge School Division is looking for a dynamic, self-motivated, caring and enthusiastic team leader to fill the role of Speech Language Pathologist. Reporting to the Director of Inclusive Education and Early Childhood Coordinator, the successful candidate will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to address barriers to participation and learning and promote the success of all children and students from Early Education to grade 12. Available Positions:

1 Position - 1.00 FTE (35 hours/week)

What will you work?
This position follows the assigned Speech Language Pathologist calendar that provides time off during some non-instructional student days and approximately 6 weeks during the summer.

Speech-Language Pathologist will:

  • Deliver a continuum of support within the division’s Response to Instruction and Intervention framework (RTI2)
  • Provide universal strategies to support all students in inclusive classrooms
  • Facilitate, through play, the development of age-appropriate skills
  • Based on a referral system, provide student-specific assessment and therapeutic programming
  • Administer, score and interpret standardized assessments
  • Complete assessment and treatment reports and year-end summaries
  • Provide recommendations for universal, targeted and specialized services based on data gathered
  • Collaborate with other therapists/specialists (occupational therapist, behavior) to support student development
  • Participate as a member of the Learning Team to develop, facilitate, and monitor student program plans and successful transitions
  • Provide recommendations and consult with the Complex Communication Team regarding augmentative or alternative communication systems
  • Facilitate professional learning opportunities for school teams in the area of speech and language (visuals, social pragmatics, language development)

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Strong assessment and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to establish rapport with students, families, staff, and community partners
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with division and school teams
  • Expertise in facilitating professional learning for staff

Education, Certification and Experience Required:

  • Degree in a recognized program in Speech-Language Pathology
  • Be registered with Alberta College of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA)
  • Be eligible for certification with Speech-Language & Audiology Canada (SAC)
  • Experience working in an educational setting is preferred
  • Proof of Education and Certification is required. Education received outside of Canada will require an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) confirming high school or post-secondary equivalencies
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license and a reliable vehicle

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • A police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification, which may be a valid driver’s license, provincial identification card as issued by a licensed government registry office, valid passport or Nexus card. If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name cannot be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.

Salary range for this 1.00 FTE position ranges from $67,400 - $92,800 plus vacation pay depending on education and experience.
