VISION SUPPORT TEACHER (TEMPORARY, 1.0 FTE)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Education of the visually impaired
  • Qualifications in orientation and mobility are preferred
  • Valid BC Teaching certificate
  • Ability to travel between sites

Candidates Should Have:

  • Flexibility and ability to work as part of a team
  • High level of interpersonal and organizational skills and ability to prioritize
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with school teams, families and community agencies
  • Knowledge of student eligibility for Ministry of Education Vision and Deafblind categories
  • Ability to provide universal tier one supports for students with vision challenges in classrooms
  • Ability to provide program/resource development for students with vision-based needs and to contribute to IEP development
  • Ability to consult with district and school-based staff, parents, and community agencies to support students with vision-based needs
  • Knowledge of current assistive technologies to support students with vision needs
  • A willingness to provide a variety of in-service opportunities to school and district staff
  • A willingness to attend district-based professional development opportunities in an effort to stay current and implement best practices
