The Vancouver School Board (VSB) invites applications for a Speech Language Pathologist position in Vancouver. The role combines 0.8000 FTE AAC work with 0.2000 FTE school-based SLP duties, based at District Learning Services, serving K-12 students across multiple sites.

The successful candidate will have a post graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology, be eligible for CAC-SLPA certification, and demonstrate strong collaboration with teachers and families.

Qualifications

  • Post graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology and eligibility for CAC-SLPA certification.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills; ability to prioritize workload.
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based practice and familiarity with paper-based and digital communication tools.
  • General knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication strategies and interventions.
  • Demonstrated skills working with school-aged children and collaborating with school-based professionals.

Responsibilities

  • Provide AAC intervention, assessment, consultation and related services to students district-wide.
  • Work with elementary to high school students, travel to multiple school sites.
  • Collaborate with teachers, support staff and families as part of School Based Team.
  • Provide consultative support and training to school staff as needed.

This position consists of 0.8000 FTE AAC and 0.2000 FTE school-based SLP.

AAC Speech and Language Pathologists provide a range of services (intervention, consultation, assessment etc.) to students in the district who require Augmentative and Alternative Communication intervention. This position is based at District Learning Services and provides support to teachers and/or service to students in elementary schools who require AAC intervention.

School-based Speech and Language Pathologists work in several schools in the district to provide evaluation and remediation of a range of communicative difficulties in school populations (Kindergarten to Grade 12). As a member of a School Based Team, the Speech and Language pathologist will be required to work collaboratively and to provide consultative support to teachers, support staff and families. This position requires travel to various school sites. Applicants must be a member of the B.C. College of Speech and Hearing Health Professionals.

Qualifications:
  • Post graduate degree in Speech Language Pathology, as well as eligibility for certification with the Canadian Association for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and organization skills ; demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Broad knowledge of evidence-based practice, familiarity and comfort with paper-based and digital communication strategies and tools.
  • General knowledge of Augmentative and Alternative Communication strategies and interventions.
  • Demonstrated skills and knowledge working with school aged children.
  • Demonstrated skills in collaborating and working with school-based professionals, ability to develop and deliver presentations or training , ability to provide effective consultation.
