Job summary

The Near North District School Board is hiring a 1.0 Permanent Licensed Maintenance-Plumber for the North Region, covering North Bay and surrounding areas. Applicants must have an Ontario Secondary School Diploma and a current Ontario Plumbers License, a valid G license, vehicle access and a clear driving record.

The role installs, replaces, and maintains plumbing, hydronic heating components, drainage and water systems, and coordinates with contractors as directed by the Supervisor.

Qualifications

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• Current Ontario Plumbers License is required.
• Valid Class G Driver's License with access to own reliable vehicle.
• Clear, Current Driver's Abstract.
• WHMIS certification is required.
• Knowledge of essential building codes, provincial regulations and OH&S rules.

Responsibilities

• Install, replace, update and maintain NNDSB plumbing and related components (fixtures, piping, connections, water supply, drainage).
• Install, replace, update and maintain hydronic heating system components (valves, switches, pumps, piping, wiring).
• Work with Maintenance staff and Contractors as directed by the Supervisor.
• Maintain compressed air systems, laboratory gas piping, valves and controls.
• Act as NNDSB contact for Contractors and review their work when directed.
• Produce cost estimates and order parts/equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
• Maintain equipment/tools/vehicle in safe, clean condition; respond to emergencies outside hours.

• Knowledge of essential building codes, governing provincial regulations and occupational health and safety regulations
• Current G2 Gas Fitter Certificate consideredan asset
• OWWA Cross Connection Control SpecialistCertification consideredan asset

Required Knowledge and Skills:

• Install, replace, update and maintain all NNDSB plumbing and related components including but not limited to: fixtures, piping and connections for washrooms, classrooms, kitchens, special function rooms, septic and waster systems, municipal and well water supply systems and components, storm water and drainage systems
• Install, replace, update and maintain components of hydronic heating systems such as valves, switches, pumps, piping and related components, wiring of pumps/switchers from disconnects
• Work with and assist other Maintenance Staff and Contractors as directed by the Supervisor
• Install, replace, update and maintain compressed air systems and components, laboratory gas piping, valves and controls
• Act as an NNDSB contact for external Contractors and review work of Contractors when directed by the Supervisor
• Responsible for cost estimate, inventor and ordering of parts and equipment as directed by the Supervisor
• Maintain equipment, tools vehicle and workplace in a sage and clean operating condition
• Respond to emergency situations outside regular working hours
• Maintain a professional appearance and attitude on the job
• Proven problem solving skills and ability the read and interpret blueprints, schematics and specifications as well as perform cost estimations
• Working knowledge of general construction and maintenance processes
• Highly motivated with proven experience working independently and as a member in a team environment
• Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
• General knowledge of basic computer applications
• Ability to work from plans, drawings and through verbal instruction
• Ability and willingness to perform the physical demands of the job (i.e. climbing and working at various heights, lifting heavyloads, workingin temperature extremesetc.)

Rate of Pay: $32.26 to $33.69 per hour

Hours of Employment: 7:30am to 4:00 pm (must be flexible)
