North End Community Health Centre seeks a Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) to support tenants in the Overlook harm-reduction housing project. You will work with a multidisciplinary team, conducting individualized support, eviction prevention planning, and community engagement.

Our first ground-breaking harm reduction, peer supported housing project, the Overlook houses up to 60 individuals who struggle with active and problematic drug and/or alcohol use, as well as have chronic health conditions, have lengthy experience with homelessness, and/or are actively engaged in sex work. Partnering with Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia (AHANS) (the landlord), we offer 24/7 on-site, on-demand harm reduction supports to tenants, as well as various housing and healthcare supports around life skills and social inclusion.
The Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) is a professional within the field of social work who focuses on addressing the psychosocial and emotional aspects for tenants residing at the Overlook as they work towards housing and life stability. The BSW provides opportunity for both individualized and group-based engagement with all tenants, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team that includes RN, MSW, Indigenous Cultural Support, Peer Support and HRHW's.
The BSW will provide direct support to tenants based on their individualized support plan, including developing and actioning of eviction prevention planning, accountability conversations and conflict resolution processes. The BSW will work with other team members to ensure tenants requiring accompaniment for court etc. have options. The BSW will play central role in tenant selection, move-ins and the onboarding of new tenants.
The BSW will develop and deliver, in conjunction with other members of the Overlook team, programming primarily focused to build community connection and relationships within the building through dedicated programming and also facilitate connections for Overlook tenants to the larger community outside of the building through land-based activities, recreational field trips, opportunities to attend events and other community spaces.
The BSW works from an equity lens and understands the needs of community members experiencing homelessness, poverty, substance use, and marginalization related to trauma, race, gender identity, disability and criminalization. They have skills in system navigation, strength-based interventions, and the ability to interpret and use provincial and federal policy to support clients on issues of poverty, housing maintenance, healthcare access, harm reduction, food insecurity, Income Assistance, pharmacare and other benefits.
