Job summary

Niagara Health in Niagara Falls is looking for a Registered Practical Nurse (CPT) to join the Medical Unit C on a casual part-time basis. You will provide patient-centred care, based on nursing standards and collaborate with the care team.

Availability for days, afternoons, nights, weekends and holidays is required, with shift rotations possible. The ideal candidate holds RPN registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario, BCLS certification, and has recent IV therapy and medication

Qualifications

• Current registration as an RPN with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
• Current BCLS certification.
• One year experience in full scope of practice as an RPN in a healthcare setting.
• Current medication administration experience within the past two years.
• Knowledge and skill in physical assessment.
• Proficiency in IV therapy and use of IV pumps.
• Familiarity with CVADs, CADD pumps, VAC therapy and enteral feeds.
• Adheres to NH values and professional practice standards.
• Committed to patient/client centred care and collaborative team work.
• Accurate documentation per CNO standards.

POSITION OBJECTIVE:

Working to promote nursing excellence, quality patient/client-centred care and high professional standards, the Registered Practical Nurse will provide care through the therapeutic application of skills, knowledge, abilities and nursing standards, while collaborating with other healthcare team members. The objective of the Registered Practical Nurse is to provide safe and competent care through the application of nursing knowledge, the technical aspects of professional practice and the demonstration of compassion, professionalism and respect. Shift rotations are subject to change.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Current BCLS certification
• One year experience working to the full scope of practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario as a RPN in a healthcare setting
• Current medication administration experience within the past two years
• Demonstrated knowledge and skill in physical assessment
• Demonstrated proficiency in the application of enhanced nursing skills
• Demonstrated proficiency in IV Therapy Initiation and use of IV pumps
• Demonstrated knowledge of and skill with CVADs, CADD pumps, VAC therapy and enteral feeds
• Applies NH values and professional practice standards to patient/client care and service
• Demonstrated commitment to patient/client centred care
• Demonstrated ability to perform effectively in a collaborative total patient care model
• Demonstrated commitment to patient and family education and the ability to promote health and wellness
• Evidence of accurate, timely and appropriate documentation according to best practice guidelines and CNO standards
• Demonstrated ability to facilitate patient discharges
• Applies knowledge, skills, judgment and competencies required for safe practice as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario
• Integrates reflection, critical thinking, education and relevant practical experience in problem solving
• Must be available for all shifts, vacation replacement, sick time and paid holidays
• Consistent and regular attendance required
