Title and Summary
Vice President, Government Affairs & Policy, Brazil
Overview:
Manage Mastercard’s relationships with government and key policymakers in the Brazil Division and lead the implementation of strategies for enhancing relationships among Mastercard executives and policymakers. The goal is to promote the company’s future growth in the sub-region and ensure operations under a sound public policy framework. Develop opportunities and mitigate threats on key policy areas by working with external stakeholders and leading alliances and partnerships.
Role:
- Develop and implement strategic plans related to policy issues in the Brazil Division of LAC, considering the competitive environment, key customers, and global perspectives to protect and enhance corporate reputation and business opportunities.
- Interpret and influence the policy environment related to political, regulatory, and economic developments in the financial services sector, focusing on payments, financial inclusion, digital economy, and competition policy.
- Assist in Mastercard executives’ outreach to policymakers, ensuring external government relations are well managed. Represent the company before government agencies, legislative bodies, and regulatory authorities in coordination with internal teams.
- Identify and maintain awareness of key external constituencies, including government and non-government organizations and opinion leaders that could impact business positively or negatively.
- Collaborate with outside consultants to develop and execute strategy.
- Partner with internal and external stakeholders to build relationships, avoid harmful legislation, and seek opportunities for alliances and coalitions.
- Manage projects across business units and regions, working effectively within the organization to deliver results.
- Lead internal groups to evaluate the impact of public policy decisions and analyze legislative proposals, providing updates on regulatory and political landscapes to senior management.
- Support the Legal Department with regulatory filings and responses to regulatory requests.
- Travel frequently within LAC Brazil Division to meet with policymakers, business leaders, and customers.
All About You:
- Extensive experience in public policy, legislative, or government affairs, preferably in payments or financial services.
- Good judgment, creative problem-solving skills, and team-oriented attitude.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong interpersonal skills and cultural awareness.
- Excellent communication skills in English and Portuguese, with ability to collaborate across regions.
- Proactive, results-driven, meticulous, and able to prioritize effectively.
