Job Description
A Trade Compliance Planner is an individual contributor within the supply chain organization who ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures to all applicable customs regulations when the company transacts products, services and technology across borders, in or through bonded warehouses and free/foreign trade zones. Able to instruct, audit and verify how information related to those transactions is processed, archived and reported to relevant governments and internally. Ensures legal compliance and provides logistics administration and control within government and corporate rules and regulations. Contributes to the practices of minimizing costs and productivity.
Your Responsibilities
- Attend to classification differences and collaborate with appropriate contacts to prevent delays in the brokerage process.
- Work cross-functionally to coordinate, supervise, and maintain certification requirements.
- Ensure policies and procedures align with supply chain security program standards.
- Analyze and implement special regimes required by operations, such as Free Trade Zones (FTZ) and temporary imports.
- Conduct internal audits and partner with third-party consultants to assess internal procedures.
- Measure the timing and service levels of customs brokers using standard metrics and KPIs.
- Perform site audits and end-to-end assessments of import and export processes.
- Evaluate, confirm, and approve exceptional documentation used in customs operations.
- Ensure that Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) reflect the current operational state; update and coordinate with relevant contacts as needed.
- Respond to compliance requests and participate in department projects as assigned.
- Maintain updated inventory control system records (for Trade Compliance Planners at manufacturing plants in Mexico).
The Essentials - You Will Have
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Commerce or any related field within Economic Sciences.
- 1 to 2 years of experience in Foreign Trade.
- Proficiency in English (minimum 50%).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office tools and basic knowledge of SAP.
The Preferred - You Might Also Have
- Advanced knowledge of customs regulations and international trade compliance frameworks.
- Experience working with bonded warehouses, Free Trade Zones (FTZ), or similar environments.
- Familiarity with logistics and supply chain security programs.
- Proven ability to conduct detailed audits and assessments of import/export processes.
- Additional language proficiency (e.g., Spanish or other relevant languages for global trade).
- Experience using advanced data analysis tools or software beyond basic SAP functionality.
- A track record of contributing to cost-saving initiatives and improving operational efficiency.
