We are seeking a passionate software engineer to focus on the Rust programming language and its ecosystem on Ubuntu. Your work will enhance the Rust runtime, developer experience, and tooling, ensuring Ubuntu remains at the forefront of modern programming languages and open source communities.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the core Ubuntu system, working on critical toolchains and making Ubuntu the premier platform for Rust development across desktop, server, cloud, and container environments. You will collaborate with team members, review code, participate in design discussions, and influence Ubuntu's architecture to improve performance, security, and reliability.

Location: This position is remote, based in the AMERICAS region.

Key responsibilities include:

• Collaborate with a distributed team
• Integrate and package tooling to improve Rust development on Ubuntu
• Develop new features and debug issues in high-quality code
• Review code contributions from colleagues
• Participate in design discussions and architecture decisions

Ideal candidate profile:

• Experience with Rust, particularly in cloud-native and Linux environments
• Interest or experience in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu
• Long-time Linux user
