We are seeking a Staff Software Engineer to join our Core Enablement Team. This team identifies and resolves hidden issues within our software ecosystem, enabling other teams to build reliable and high-performance shipping APIs. These APIs allow our customers to connect with carriers, calculate rates, create labels, and track packages, facilitating faster, higher-quality delivery of value to our customers. We need a proactive, pragmatic, and collaborative individual who can adapt to team dynamics, identify hidden problems, and design solutions that empower our division to develop the best shipping API on the internet.

Shipping & handling responsibilities:

1. Software Service Design & Deployment: Lead the design and deployment of scalable, resilient services handling millions of requests daily, ensuring SLAs and complex business requirements are met.
2. Scalability & Maintainability: Promote microservices architecture and efficient data models to optimize system performance and maintainability.
3. CI/CD Pipeline: Improve the CI/CD process for automated testing and safe releases, maintaining system stability.
4. System Performance: Own and optimize system performance to meet response time and throughput targets.
5. Database Design: Architect and maintain high-performance, scalable database schemas supporting data integrity.
6. System Architecture: Lead system design and refactoring efforts to enhance performance, reuse, and modularity.
7. Peer Reviews & Testing: Participate in reviews and testing, contributing to quality standards through automated tests.
8. Business Collaboration: Work with business teams to translate requirements into technical solutions that foster innovation.
9. On-Call Support: Provide effective support for system incidents using monitoring tools.
10. Testing & Automation: Advocate for best practices in testing and automation to support scaling and continuous improvement.
11. Business Development: Gather business requirements and ensure solutions align with business goals.

7. Craftsmanship & Excellence: Commitment to technical excellence and continuous improvement, including setting team standards.
8. Educational Background & Language: Advanced degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience, with fluency in English for global communication.

Bonus:

• Experience with SRE principles, including monitoring, SLAs, and cloud services like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Experience working with shipping or postal carriers.
• Proficiency with Python and Golang in production environments.
• Familiarity with microservices, API integrations (REST, SOAP, gRPC), and DevOps tools.
• Experience with Django, Kubernetes, and cloud management tools.
