Job summary

Uber Technologies Inc. is seeking a Staff Software Engineer, Mobile to lead core mobile architecture across Android and iOS platforms. You will shape design decisions, drive performance, and mentor teams to deliver reliable, scalable mobile experiences at global scale.

In this role you will own critical components, collaborate widely with engineers and product stakeholders, and raise engineering standards. In-office presence is expected at least 50% of the time, with bonuses and equity available

Qualifications

• Extensive experience designing, building, and maintaining Android and/or iOS apps.
• Deep knowledge of mobile architecture, concurrency, lifecycle, dependency management, performance optimization, and modular design.
• Proven ability to design complex software systems and evaluate architectural trade-offs.
• Experience leading technical initiatives, mentoring engineers, and cross-team collaboration without formal management authority.
• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.

We're looking for a Staff Software Engineer, Mobilewho thrives on solving complex technical challenges, shaping architectural decisions, and influencing engineering practices across multiple teams.

What You'll Do

• Solve engineering challenges at global scale: Design and evolve foundational mobile components, frameworks, and libraries that support applications used by millions of people. Balance performance, reliability, scalability, and developer productivity in a complex engineering ecosystem.
• Drive architecture and technical strategy: Lead system design discussions, navigate complex technical trade-offs, and influence long-term architectural decisions across teams. Translate ambiguous challenges into scalable, sustainable technical solutions.
• Stay hands-on with complex engineering problems: Write production-quality code, implement critical capabilities, investigate performance bottlenecks, and solve technically demanding problems.
• Influence beyond: Partner with engineers, technical leaders, and cross-functional stakeholders to align architectural approaches, establish engineering standards, and drive initiatives that improve the broader mobile ecosystem.
• Raise the engineering bar: Mentor experienced engineers, facilitate technical discussions, provide architectural guidance, and foster a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement.
• Build for engineering productivity at scale: Improve the tools, infrastructure, and development practices that enable multiple teams to ship mobile experiences efficiently, safely, and consistently.

Basic Qualifications

• Software Engineering Experience: Extensive professional experience designing, building, and maintaining complex Android and/or iOS applications, with a track record of technical ownership and architectural contributions.
• Mobile Technical Expertise: Deep knowledge of mobile architecture, concurrency and threading, application lifecycle, dependency management, performance optimization, and modular system design.
• System Design & Scalability: Proven ability to design complex software systems, evaluate architectural trade-offs, and build solutions that support reliability, maintainability, and long-term growth.
• Technical Leadership & Influence: Experience leading technical initiatives, influencing engineering decisions, mentoring other engineers, and collaborating across teams without relying on formal management authority.
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
