Summary: Directs the maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles as outlined by the VMF Supervisor. Performs highly complex repairs on a broad range of equipment in the shop and in the field. Acts as a technical expert in equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair.
Position Responsibilities:
- Oversees maintenance and repair of equipment and vehicles.
- Serves as a recognized technical expert in equipment and vehicle maintenance and repair.
- Performs complex repairs on various equipment in shop and field settings.
- Ensures corrective maintenance is carried out as directed by the VMF Supervisor.
- Supervises VMF staff involved in repair and maintenance tasks.
- Prioritizes work requests and adjusts tasks to meet urgent needs.
- Coordinates work orders and assigns tasks to personnel.
- Monitors ongoing work to ensure quality and timely completion.
- Documents work progress and communicates issues to relevant parties.
- Maintains records of shop activities and technical documentation.
- Prepares reports on work progress.
- Writes performance evaluations for technicians and assistants.
- Prepares purchase requisitions and assesses equipment needs.
- Ensures compliance with environmental, health, safety, and quality standards.
- Handles confidential matters per company policies.
- Trains and develops team members, fostering safety and technical competence.
- Ensures safety and accountability of the team, maintaining a safe work environment.
- May work various shifts based on operational needs.
- Assists team members as needed.
- Performs additional duties as required.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or GED.
- At least 8 years of experience in heavy and light vehicle and equipment maintenance.
- 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience.
- One season of VMF experience in Antarctica.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Technical school training (2 years preferred).
- Experience with generators, mobile cranes, and specialized equipment.
- Experience with Fuel Master or similar software.
- Computer proficiency, especially Windows 10 and MS Office.
- Experience with asset management and maintenance software like Maximo.
- Previous experience in remote polar operations.
Physical and Other Requirements:
- Willingness to deploy to Antarctica for extended periods.
- Successful medical, dental, drug screening, and background checks.
- Ability to lift and move heavy items and perform physical activities outdoors in cold conditions.
- Participation in community programs and safety initiatives.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Ability to obtain necessary credentials, with U.S. citizenship required.
