About the Role:

We are seeking a talented and motivated Senior Software Engineer with accounting and financial experience that will thrive in a dynamic, fast‑paced environment within a rapidly growing team, with abundant prospects for leadership and innovation.

This position is ideal for professionals who began their careers in accounting or finance and later transitioned into software engineering — individuals who now want to leverage that domain expertise to architect and scale technical solutions that solve complex financial challenges in fintech.

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will design, develop, and optimize high‑impact systems that power Sezzle’s financial reporting, reconciliation, and automation workflows. You’ll partner closely with cross‑functional teams — including Accounting and Finance — to ensure data integrity, streamline financial processes, and build robust, auditable systems that meet enterprise‑grade standards.

Your role will extend beyond development. You’ll mentor engineers, shape technical direction, and bring a strong sense of ownership to every project you lead. You should be able to build high‑quality, innovative, and fully performing software in compliance with coding standards, technical design, and regulatory best practices.

What You’ll Do:
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to enhance and maintain software solutions for financial processes.
  • Participate fully in the software development lifecycle, from design through deployment.
  • Build new features and products as part of an integrated engineering team.
  • Leverage accounting background to identify gaps and improve automation and reconciliation workflows.
  • Evaluate and deploy software tools, processes, and metrics.
  • Provide support and consulting on software systems usage.
  • Ensure compliance with project plans and industry standards.
  • Design software applications and features in Golang.
  • Build reports and automations using Python and SQL.
  • Help build out a distributed architecture, creating solutions that work within it, maintaining consistency while scaling highly.
  • Coordinate with internal company stakeholders to design market‑winning products.
  • Develop and collect metrics to drive continuous improvement of existing products.
  • Deliver high‑quality, testable features that meet reporting and compliance standards.
  • Mentor other engineering teammates to help elevate their experience and knowledge.
What We Look For:
  • At least 7 years of full‑stack software engineering experience.
  • Experience bringing new ideas and building consensus on the path forward.
  • Experience with building and serving REST APIs using Go and Java, Python or a similar language.
  • BS in Accounting, Computer Science or similar degree, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
  • Prior experience as an accountant or financial analyst.
  • Solid understanding of financial operations such as reconciliation, reporting, and compliance.
  • Experience in banking or financial institutions is a plus.
  • Proficient in multiple programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Go) and experience with database systems like MySQL or PostgreSQL.
  • Familiarity with software engineering tools, software development methodology, and release processes.
  • Comfortable using observability platforms like Prometheus, or vendor solutions like NewRelic or Datadog to instrument your code for production monitoring and alerting.
  • Familiarity with containerized micro‑service architecture deployed with Kubernetes on AWS.
  • Demonstrated history of delivering commercial APIs and web applications.
