Job Description

We are expanding our Latin American teams by establishing a new São Paulo engineering hub, building multiple new, high-impact engineering teams on the ground. We are looking for ambitious and highly skilled Senior Software Engineers to join these LatAm engineering teams, contributing to the first wave of talent in this hub. This is a unique opportunity to be a foundational member of our São Paulo engineering hub, helping to shape our local culture, processes, and technical direction. You will play a crucial role in expanding our product across Latin American markets, covering Onboarding (Consumer & Business) and Money Movement capabilities by integrating with local partners, connecting with local payment schemes, and building seamless customer journeys across the region, while collaborating closely with our global teams, including helping to shape our global KYC/KYB and money movement systems.

Your Role:

As a Senior Software Engineer based in our new São Paulo engineering hub, you will be a core contributor within one of the LatAm engineering teams, focused on building robust and scalable capabilities for Onboarding (Consumer & Business) and Money Movement across the diverse Latin American region. You will be instrumental in implementing integrations with banks, payment providers, identity/business verification vendors, and other local partners, connecting our platform to various local payment systems, optimizing onboarding funnels, and handling the complexities of moving money across countries, within your team's specific area of focus.

This role requires a high level of technical and product excellence and a passion for building high-quality, scalable, and compliant solutions tailored for the unique financial infrastructure and regulatory landscape of Latin America. You won't just be writing code; you will be involved in proposing solid technical designs, participating in code and design reviews within your team, and collaborating closely with engineers in other global offices to build the core infrastructure that unlocks and grows new markets across LatAm, especially in the area of global KYC/KYB and money movement systems.

You will have the chance to significantly contribute to the technical direction for your team's domain, help build a best-in-class engineering organisation right here in São Paulo, leveraging your experience to mentor and coach less experienced team members as we grow the engineering teams in this new hub. You will also collaborate closely with other engineering teams being established in São Paulo, and with global teams in other locations.

What You'll Be Doing:

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy features and services to enable Consumer & Business Onboarding and Money Movement capabilities in existing and new Latin American markets, within your team's focus area.

  • Implement integrations with local banks, payment providers, identity/business verification vendors, and financial partners across the region.

  • Connect the Wise platform to various local payment schemes and networks across Latin America.

  • Automate and improve onboarding workflows and compliance checks (KYC/KYB) for different customer types across the region.

  • Propose and advocate for high-quality technical designs and solutions for both Onboarding and Money Movement that are scalable, reliable, and compliant with the diverse regulations across Latin American markets.

  • Participate in code and design reviews within your team, providing constructive feedback to maintain and elevate our engineering standards.

  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including product managers, designers, and engineers in our other global offices, to align on product vision and technical implementation for regional expansion and contribute to the evolution of our global KYC/KYB and money movement systems.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues related to Onboarding, Money Movement, cross-border payments, and local integrations in LatAm markets.

  • Contribute to the technical strategy and roadmap for the LatAm domain.

  • Act as a technical mentor for less experienced engineers within your team and contribute to the technical growth of the São Paulo engineering hub.

  • Stay updated on relevant LatAm market trends to inform product development and ensure compliance.

Qualifications

  • A proactive and ambitious mindset, with a desire to take ownership and make a significant impact in expanding into new markets.
  • Proven experience as a Senior Software Engineer, with a strong track record of delivering high-quality, scalable systems and a strong Product mindset.

  • Deep technical expertise in back-end development and microservices architecture.

  • Java proficiency.

  • Experience in designing and building software systems and collaborating on technical designs within a team or domain.

  • Strong ability to provide constructive feedback during code and design reviews.

  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to break down complex challenges.

  • Fluency in English (written and spoken).

Nice to Have:

  • Experience collaborating with distributed or global teams.

  • Experience working on payments systems, money movement, financial integrations, Consumer and/or Business onboarding (KYC/KYB) in Latin American markets.

  • Familiarity with financial regulations and compliance requirements across various LatAm countries.

  • Experience in the FinTech or payments industry.

  • Fluency in Spanish.

What Success Looks Like:

In this role, success means not only delivering robust and scalable Onboarding and Money Movement capabilities for Consumer and Business customers across Latin American markets and contributing to our global platform's evolution, including our global KYC/KYB and money movement systems, but also actively contributing to building a strong, high-performing engineering team and culture in our new São Paulo engineering hub. As a foundational member of the local teams, you will have helped shape technical standards within your domain and team, mentored colleagues, and played a key role in establishing our engineering presence in São Paulo and integrating it with our global organisation, all while driving our mission forward by expanding our reach and services across Latin America.
