Overview

At this moment internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. Internal candidates will be considered as First-Tier Candidates and will be given preference over Second-Tier candidates. Internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Former IOM Staff Members affected by a Structural Adjustment Plan triggered due to a funding constraint in the last 12 months will be considered internal candidates.

Context

Under the direct supervision of the Project Coordinator, the Senior Project Assistant will provide project management support to the Economic Integration Unit. In particular he/she will be responsible for:

Responsibilities
  1. Provide assistance and support to the coordination with civil society, government, private sector entities and academic institutions in order to facilitate the development, implementation and monitoring and evaluation of assigned programs/projects;
  2. Provide support in outreach activities and in the development of partnerships with private sector partners in area of responsibility to enhance employment opportunities for migrants;
  3. Identify new project possibilities in relation to economic integration of migrants and expressed governmental needs, donors’ priorities and in line with IOM’s mandate and strategy;
  4. Assist the preparation of progress and other reports and ensure proper information exchange on all operational aspects of the project with the Project Coordinator;
  5. Undertake site visits and duty travel as required relating to project implementation/coordination, liaison with counterparts, problem solving, and adaptation of activities to the different operational contexts as required;
  6. Provide support for the implementation of capacity building activities for local stakeholders;
  7. Assist in performing various assignments, in collaboration with national counterparts, by planning, organizing, managing logistics, and facilitating different events and activities in their administrative and organizational aspects with local governments, private sector, civil society and migrants;
  8. Support collection of data and reports elaborations and systematizations, undertake logistical and administrative tasks necessary for the execution of abovementioned activities;
  9. Perform other work-related tasks, as required.
Education
  • Academic BA in Social Sciences, Social Services, Law, Administration, Education, Economics, or a related field from an accredited academic institution. Relevant professional experience can be considered in lieu of academic requirements.

Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.

Experience
  • Experience implementing and monitoring social and economic integration projects in partnership with government, civil society, UN, or private sector actors;
  • Ability to establish and maintain strong working relations with relevant government counterparts, civil society, international organizations and private sector entities;
  • Relevant field experience related to migration, refugee and statelessness population.
Skills

Languages

Required: For this position, fluency in Portuguese and English is required (oral and written). Desirable: Advanced Spanish is desirable.
