Summary of Role & Key ResponsibilitiesAnthesis' Value Chain Transformation team is looking for a highly motivated Senior/Principal Consultant with deep expertise in the Dairy or Agricultural sector to support our growing work helping clients to deliver our ambitious strategy for the Decisive Decade. Engaging an organization's value chain is a challenging but critical area for companies to drive environmental and social transformation and minimize their ESG-related risks. This role exists to support our growing client work on results-focused value chain engagement and diligence, with a particular emphasis on helping our global agriculture, food and beverage clients to deliver regenerative agriculture outcomes across key commodity supply chain, in particular those related to milk, dairy, dairy derivatives and meat.
Our ideal candidate will be able to support the following:
- Key clients' progress towards more sustainable and climate smart production across key sourcing regions, with demonstrable experience with supplier engagement, especially within the agriculture and preferably the dairy sector, with specific USDA knowledge or expertise Identify and address key sustainability challenges and opportunities associated with farming, particularly within the related supply chains
- Develop supplier engagement and strategic roadmaps, drawing from a practical knowledge of the role farming plays in the wider agrifood system and the commercial, operational and technological levers to affect change
- Define and deliver business processes to collect and manage other environmental and sustainability-related supply chain data Implement effective supplier engagement and capacity-building programs, taking into account USDA, agricultural sector or other nuances and challenges
Key Responsibilities:Subject Matter Expertise (SME) - You will serve as a SME in the development and implementation of value chain projects within the Agriculture or Dairy sectors, specifically with US-based dairy and agriculture supply chains. You will work alongside clients to evaluate their in-house and supply chain operations, and designing policies, programs, and strategies that align with an array of ESG topics. You will advise in carrying out supply chain ESG risk analysis, integrating and developing responsible sourcing systems and processes, creating educational materials to support client procurement teams and suppliers to build capacity and enablement, recommending and supporting the deployment of supply chain data solutions and technologies, and building and carrying out supplier engagement programs for clients. As part of this work, you will:
- Review primary data collected on farm (via Anthesis and the digital tools we support) to assess on-farm GHG, regenerative agriculture and animal welfare performance.
- Make recommendations on data enhancements and quality improvements.
- Shadow audit farm data collection processes, including the potential to visit farm sites across key global sourcing regions.
- Support clients with expert advice on agriculture with a particular focus on dairy carbon reduction and removal programs
- Have broad understanding of SBTi and FLAG emissions Input into training collateral to support engaging and upskilling key clients, their supply chains and other key stakeholders
- Have a broad knowledge of Animal Welfare across the agriculture supply chains (knowledge of welfare in Apparel Supply Chains would be a bonus)
General Project Management - As a Senior/Principal Consultant, you will help manage and deliver client engagements targeted at improving sustainability, specifically in the areas of supply chain sustainability, supplier engagement, human rights and social impact. You will be responsible for these projects being on time, budget, and schedule. Your role will involve managing several projects and dedicated project teams at any one time. You will be expected to perform high level review of client work products.
Client Management - You will lead and grow client relationships, managing client expectations and delivering on their ESG goals and objectives and acting as the primary point of contact. You will be responsible for developing and delivering proposals that demonstrate an understanding of the client's business and tailored scopes of work to achieve their goals. You will work to develop a trusted advisor relationship with all clients and focus relentlessly on helping them be successful in defining and achieving their sustainability goals.
Sustainability Performance - You will advise clients how to prioritize, evaluate and improve their social impact and human rights performance within the supply chain. This will include desktop research, internal and external stakeholder engagement, and the integration of advanced data analytics.
Key Requirements & Skills, Knowledge and Expertise- Agriculture degree or related field, Bachelor's required, Master's preferred
- Demonstrable experience (Senior: 4-6 years, Principal: 6-8 years) of working in the dairy or agricultural sector (Knowledge of farm to retail supply chains).
- Practical knowledge and understanding of dairy farming, with USDA expertise.
- An established understanding of sustainability/ESG issues, especially around energy and greenhouse gas emissions, experience with sustainable procurement practices and strategies related to human rights, diversity equity & inclusion, or other relevant social/environmental topics.
- Skilled at working in multi-stakeholder environments.
- Experience of project and program management.
- Experience in delivering high quality and professional reports, in multiformat and for various audiences.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills, including data collection and management, with advanced Excel skills (knowledge of other analytical software such as Alteryx/Tableau/PowerBI etc would be a bonus).
- Working knowledge of sustainability legislation and reporting, including corporate sustainability reports.
- Experience delivering projects either in house, in the supply chain or in a consultancy or NGO environment.
- Experience with solution selling and leading business development from discovery through delivery.
- Working knowledge of sustainability reporting, including ethical trading and/or corporate sustainability reports.
- Ability to troubleshoot and analyze complex problems.
- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines. Excellent communications and project management skills.
- Self-organized, self-motivated, detail-oriented, effective time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to respond positively to pressure and take a flexible approach to a dynamic, fast moving and changing work environment.
- Professional presence with the ability to quickly establish personal credibility and demonstrate expertise.
