The Manufacturing, Agribusiness, and Services (MAS) department is a key industry group responsible for a significant portion of IFC’s business volume, profitability, and development reach. MAS operates across various sub-sectors, including manufacturing, chemicals, healthcare, education, property, retail, tourism, agribusiness, and forestry, providing investment and advisory services globally.

The MAS Latin America and the Caribbean (MAS LAC) team seeks a qualified Investment Officer to originate, structure, and execute investment projects across the region, with country-specific responsibilities. The role involves business development, portfolio management, and engaging with local clients to increase investments and client engagement through value-added services. The position offers an opportunity to develop local relationships and gain deep understanding of the local business environment. The candidate should have a proven track record in leading project commitments, preferably across MAS sectors.

The position will be based in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support business development in MAS sectors in LAC, identifying priority companies.
  • Structure bankable transactions aligned with client needs and IFC priorities.
  • Negotiate and finalize mandate letters for high-impact transactions.
  • Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close transactions, including restructurings and equity sales.
  • Lead transaction structuring, incorporating lessons from evaluations and portfolio management.
  • Ensure timely processing of transactions and client requests.
  • Review work to ensure solid investment structures and legal document consistency.
  • Develop innovative financial structures for complex transactions.
  • Lead negotiations and influence stakeholders to reach successful outcomes.
  • Develop a pipeline of quality investment opportunities.
  • Mentor junior staff.
  • Maintain relationships with clients and stakeholders to develop business opportunities.
  • Coordinate with advisory and environmental teams to enhance client value and sustainable impact.
  • Collaborate on market creation strategies and contribute to diagnostics.

Selection Criteria

  • MBA or Master’s degree with 8–14 years of relevant experience in finance, economics, or related sectors.
  • Proven experience in sourcing, structuring, and closing investments across MAS sectors.
  • Extensive experience in financing, processing, and supervision.
  • Strong financial and credit skills, capable of structuring complex transactions.
  • Business development and client relationship skills.
  • Excellent communication skills; fluency in Portuguese and/or Spanish is required.
  • Ability to develop strategic client relationships.
  • Interpersonal skills for effective interaction across cultures.
  • Ability to mentor and coach junior staff.
  • Commitment to sustainable development and high ethical standards.
  • Willingness to travel extensively.
