Brazilian Nickel in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, seeks a senior geologist to lead mineral resource estimation, geological modelling, and resource evaluation activities. You will ensure model quality and support decision-making for strategic planning.

The role collaborates with Geology, Mine Planning, Exploration, and other teams to apply international standards and deliver robust reports and feasibility insights for nickel projects.

Qualificações

• Bachelor's degree in Geology, Geological Engineering or related field.
• Postgraduate qualification in geostatistics or mineral resource evaluation desirable.
• Significant experience in geological modelling and mineral resource estimation.
• Experience with nickel-bearing deposits or related mining operations is relevant.
• Experience preparing technical mineral resource and reserve reports.

Responsabilidades

Responsible for leading and executing mineral resource estimation, geological modelling, and resource evaluation activities, ensuring the quality, consistency, and reliability of geological models and resource estimates. The role works closely with Geology, Mine Planning, Exploration, and other technical teams to ensure that geological models effectively support decision-making and the company’s strategic planning processes.

Responsibilities and assignments

• Develop, review, and update geological and mineral resource models;
• Perform mineral resource estimates using appropriate geostatistical methodologies based on deposit characteristics;
• Interpret and integrate geological, drilling, sampling, laboratory assay, and structural data;
• Ensure the quality, integrity, and consistency of databases used in resource estimation processes;
• Perform statistical and geostatistical analysis, including variography, estimation domains, trend analysis, and model validation;
• Define and apply criteria for mineral resource classification;
• Support reconciliation processes between resource models, reserves, mine plans, and production results;
• Support the design and optimization of drilling programs aimed at improving geological confidence and converting resource categories;
• Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations related to geological models and resource estimates;
• Contribute to feasibility studies, strategic mine planning, and economic evaluation of mining projects;
• Ensure compliance with applicable international technical standards and mineral resource and reserve reporting codes;
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior team members;
• Identify opportunities to improve geological modelling, estimation, and geological data management processes.

Requirements and qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field;
• Postgraduate qualification, master’s degree, or specialization in Geostatistics, Mineral Resource Evaluation, or related disciplines is desirable;
• Significant experience in geological modelling and mineral resource estimation;
• Experience with deposits relevant or comparable to the company’s operations or projects;
• Experience preparing or supporting technical mineral resource and reserve reports;
• Experience within mining operations, mineral exploration, or technical consulting environments;
• Experience in Nickel Laterite is an Asset.

• Advanced knowledge of Excel and data analysis tools;
• Knowledge of Python, SQL, programming, or automation tools is considered an advantage.
