Job summary

SAP seeks a Senior Software Developer to advance AI-assisted software development within the SAP Customer Experience – Order Management Services unit. You will build and maintain cloud-native microservices powering order lifecycle management, integrating with SAP Commerce Cloud and S/4HANA in an agile team.

You will drive design, code, tests, and operational excellence, leveraging CI/CD pipelines and AI tools to accelerate delivery while upholding reliability and security.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, or related field or equivalent experience.
• Strong software development track record with Java and Spring Boot.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted development tools across the full SDLC.
• Experience designing REST APIs and asynchronous messaging (Kafka).
• Knowledge of microservices and cloud-native patterns.
• Familiar with CI/CD tooling (Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
• Working knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases.
• Experience in agile/scrum environments.
• Excellent cross-functional communication and ownership.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, and maintain cloud-native microservices for SAP CX OMS.
• Participate in full-sprint cycles including refinement, code reviews, and deployment.
• Write unit, integration, and contract tests for production-grade quality.
• Own technical quality, coding standards, and test automation practices.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps processes (SAP BTP, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions).
• Collaborate with architects and product managers to translate requirements into solutions.
• Monitor health and performance; perform root-cause analysis and fixes.
• Document and share knowledge; enhance AI-generated code with review and validation.
• Stay current with AI tech and define team standards for AI-assisted development.

Senior Application Engineering - SAP Customer Experience

• Full-time

We are looking for a dynamic and motivated Senior Software Developer who embrace AI-assisted software development as part of their everyday engineering practice to join our engineering team. The SAP Customer Experience – Order Management Services (SAP CX OMS) unit is focusing on building and maintaining high-quality cloud-native microservices that power order lifecycle management, integrating deeply with SAP Commerce Cloud and SAP S/4HANA. You'll work in a collaborative, agile team where quality engineering and customer impact go hand in hand.

What you'll bring

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field — or equivalent functional experience
• Highly proficient with software development
• Experience with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or similar in a professional setting. Deep, applicable fluency with AI developer tools across the full SDLC (design, coding, testing, observability) and awareness of the limitations and costs
• Expert level in Java; experience with Spring Boot preferred and proven experience with REST API design and asynchronous messaging (Kafka, or similar)
• Knowledge of microservices architecture and cloud-native patterns
• Strong knowledge of software engineering fundamentals, microservices architecture, cloud-native patterns, and clean code
• Experience with CI/CD tooling (Kubernetes, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or similar)
• Working knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases
• Comfortable working in an agile/scrum environment
• Drive clarity instead of waiting for it
• Robust communication skills; able to work across distributed, cross-functional teams and present to stakeholders

Nice to Have

• Knowledge of OMS domain concepts (order capture, fulfillment, ATP, returns)
• Knowledge with cloud platforms — SAP BTP and Azure
• Contributions to open-source projects

What you'll build

You will use AI-powered development tools to accelerate software delivery. From comprehending requirements and exploring designs to generating code, creating tests, debugging, documenting, and improving existing services.

• Design, develop, and test complex, scalable and performant cloud-native microservices for SAP's Order Management platform
• Participate in full-sprint cycles: refinement, development, code review, and deployment
• Write unit, integration, and contract tests to ensure production-grade quality
• Own technical quality: establish coding standards, lead code reviews, and champion test automation practices
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and apply DevOps practices to automate build, test, deployment, and operational processes (SAP BTP, Kubernetes, GitHub Actions)
• Collaborate with architects, developers, product managers and other engineering teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Monitor application health, performance, and reliability and proactively address issues. Troubleshoot complex production issues across application, integration, and infrastructure layers; drive root cause analysis and permanent fixes
• Support technical documentation and knowledge sharing within the team
• Use AI-assisted development tools daily to accelerate development while maintaining high standards for architecture, security, performance, reliability, and maintainability. Review, validate, test, and improve AI-generated code rather than blindly accepting it
• Stay current with emerging AI technologies and actively explore how new tools can improve engineering productivity. Define and apply team-level standards for AI-assisted development. Bring recommendations to the team with a clear cost/benefit view
