Role & Responsibilities

Operation and maintenance of scientific laboratory & equipment.

Contract Duration: The period of contract shall be of 06 months or 18 months depending on the suitability of candidates as assessed by NCPOR and shall start from November/December 2025. Based on the requirement, the contract can also be extended by a few months.

Contract Wages: Contract wages of 58,981/- (fixed) per month for the entire duration of contract for those who are going to Antarctica on NCPOR contract for the first time. Contract wages of 78,642/- (fixed) per month for the entire duration of contract for those who already have been to Antarctica on NCPOR contract.

Benefits: Selected candidates as members of the team will be entitled to free boarding & lodging onboard ship and at Antarctica with special polar clothing. They will be entitled to a special Hardship allowance (HDA) of 1500/- per day during summer season and 2000/- per day during winter season for the actual duration of stay in Antarctica. Special Hardship allowance rates are subject to revision in accordance with subsequent government orders.

Season Definitions:

1. Winter season: 1st March to 30th November of each calendar year.
2. Summer season: 1st December to 28th/29th February of the succeeding calendar year.

Insurance: Group Personal Accident Insurance Coverage up to 25 lakhs for the selected candidates will be provided by NCPOR for the expedition period.

Medical Examination: Shortlisted candidates will have to undergo Medical Examination at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi/Goa Medical College, Goa, and Pre-Antarctic Snow Ice Acclimatisation training at ITBP, Auli (near Joshimath, Garhwal, Himalayas) for about 15 days. The dates will be informed by NCPOR later.

Contract Signing: On final selection, the candidates will be required to sign a contract with NCPOR.

Responsibilities: Selected candidates will participate in the Antarctic expedition as team members and will have to perform all routine duties and jobs related to the expedition as assigned by the Leader of Expedition from time to time.

Application Requirements: Applicants need to bring original certificates/documents (proof of age, PAN card, Aadhar card, marriage certificate, education qualification, relevant experience) for verification at the time of interview along with one set of self-attested photocopies of relevant certificates and a recent passport size colour photo in white background. Applicants not having original certificates/documents will not be allowed to attend the interview.

Ex-servicemen/Ex-Para-military/Ex-Police Forces personnel must bring along the Identity Card, Discharge Book, and trade certificates issued during their service period in original; failure to do so will result in disqualification from the selection process. No TA/DA reimbursement of travel and accommodation shall be applicable.

Experience in the respective trade shall be considered after completion of educational/technical qualification and internship if any, i.e., degree/diploma/certificate course.

Reporting Time: Time of reporting and document verification is from 0900-1100 hrs on the respective date mentioned in the advertisement. Candidates reporting after the stipulated day and time will not be considered.

Interview Process: A pre-interview written test shall be conducted depending on the number of candidates; the interview may spill over to the next consecutive day. Interested candidates appearing for the walk-in interviews should plan accordingly.

The shortlisting for the posts shall be based on the performance of the screened-in candidates in the personal interview.

Candidates currently working in any other organization need to provide proof of their current employment with a service/experience certificate from the employer. Appointment orders will not be considered as proof of current employment unless supported by recent three-month salary slips.

Essential Qualifications: The prescribed essential qualifications are minimum, and mere possession of the same does not entitle candidates to attend for an interview. If the number of applications received in response to the advertisement is large, it will not be convenient or possible for the Selection Board to interview all those candidates. The Centre may restrict the number of candidates to be called for interview to a reasonable limit based on desirable qualifications and/or academic performance and/or relevant experience for the post prescribed in the advertisement as per the specific requirement of the Centre and/or any other benchmark decided by a committee constituted to screen the applications. No correspondence will be entertained with candidates who are not called for an interview.

Disqualification: Canvassing in any form and/or bringing any influence, or otherwise will be treated as disqualification of candidature. No interim correspondence/inquiry will be entertained.

No TA shall be paid to candidates for attending the interview. However, only ex-servicemen will be paid sleeper class return fare by train/bus and accommodation for a maximum of 2 days at the rate not exceeding Rs. 500/- per day, which shall be reimbursed only on production of original railway/bus ticket and hotel bill.

Discrepancies found in the certificate will attract the disqualification of applications. Non-production of the original certificates at the time of interview will also make the candidate disqualified.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

a) Diploma in engineering (Instrumentation/Electronics/Electrical/Mechanical) with three years working experience in handling scientific equipment/laboratory or

b) Bachelor degree in Physical Sciences/Instrumentation with two years working experience in the relevant field.

Note: Candidates with experience in handling scientific laboratory equipment as laboratory attendant, project assistant, technical/scientific assistant, or equivalent will be given preference.
