Requirements

In this challenging full-time, year-round position, you will perform a wide variety of tasks to ensure the protection, safety, and comfort of staff, guests, and homeowners at Panorama Mountain Resort (PMR).

Safety Services Officer is an ideal role for those interested in gaining hands-on experience with the intention of a career in law enforcement, fire protection, or emergency medical services. Additionally, officers will gain extensive knowledge of resort operations that could lead to promotion and career growth within the tourism industry.

Prior education is an asset but not necessary. Historically, successful candidates have graduated from programs such as Police Foundations, Law, Security, or Fire and Emergency Services. Regardless, officers will receive training through PMR in various programs including:

1. Basic Security Training (Justice Institute of BC)
2. Advanced Security Training (Justice Institute of BC)
3. Occupational First Aid Level 3 (or equivalent)
4. Advanced First Aid Protocols
5. Incident Command System (ICS) 100 and 200

In addition, Safety Services Officers are automatically considered for the Panorama fire department.

Essential Functions:

1. Ensuring the public safety and wellbeing of all patrons, staff, and local residents at PMR
2. Providing First Aid to guests and staff, including AED use and spinal injury management
3. Responding to alarms (fire, nuisance, door, etc.)
4. Inspecting alarms & security systems and rectifying deficiencies
5. Monitoring the CCTV system
6. Dispatching and liaising with emergency services as required (police, fire, ambulance, search and rescue, utilities)
7. Conducting accident/incident investigations and generating reports
8. Performing foot and vehicle patrols of the property to deter theft, vandalism, and disturbances, and to identify safety concerns
9. Enforcing community noise by-laws
10. Ensuring doors and entrances are locked and secure
11. Issuing parking violation notices
12. Intervening in disturbances and potentially violent situations in bars, restaurants, and other areas
13. Enforcing PMR’s wildlife management program
14. Responding to and resolving guest problems & assisting other departments as required

Requirements:

1. Excellent communication and people skills to foster positive interactions with guests and co-workers
2. Must pass a criminal record check and provide a driver’s abstract
3. Good physical condition and willingness to conduct physical interventions
4. Ability to work shift hours, as the department provides 24-hour coverage
5. High initiative and ability to work independently
6. Computer literacy, including basic Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook)
7. Willingness to work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions
