Job Title

Regional Director – South America

Reporting to

CEO with close direction and liaison with Global Director of Operations (GDOO) for operational matters

Role

Leading EM&I’s South American operational delivery and stated associated support functions:

  1. Member of the Leadership Team (LT) with attendance of Weekly LT Meeting (video) and other ad-hoc and scheduled LT meetings (video and in-person, as required).
  2. Responsible for cash generation for all projects delivered across the South American region, based on a guaranteed level of revenue and final approved project gross margin modelled developed as part of the proposal submission by the Business Development (BD) team.
  3. Responsible for managing specified overheads attributable to each operational base in the South American region, such overheads being those needed to satisfy the cash generation responsibility assigned to the Regional Area Manager. This includes the development of regional budgets (using EM&I’s (internal and external) project based system) as well as forecasting, reviewing and reporting.
  4. Responsible for delivering projects / contracts (and programmes of projects within contracts) safely, to the required quality standard whilst meeting or exceeding client expectations (by means of FPAL or equivalent formal client feedback mechanism), to the modelled financial targets (project gross margin, WIP, and debt) and within budget / sales forecast, and contractual timescales.
  5. Responsible for leading the Brazilian office and site based team, notably including SHEQ, HR, and TD personnel.
  6. Responsibility for equipment allocated to the region by the GDOO.
  7. Responsible for safety, health, quality, and environmental performance of site and onshore operations in the region.
  8. Responsible for establishing and maintaining excellent client relationships in partnership with the Director of Regional Development (DRD) - South America.
  9. Responsible for providing technical and operational input to the DRD - South America.
  10. Responsible for regional compliance with SHEQ, operational, technical, administration and communications, HR, and ICT processes and procedures in accordance with EM&I global standards.
  11. Responsible for reviewing the payroll in close liaison with the CFO, Global Head of HR and their teams.
  12. Ensuring client (notably but not limited to Petrobras) financial processes are followed.

Any other tasks reasonably assigned to you by the CEO in writing from time to time.

Academic Competencies

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or relevant technical discipline.

Master’s degree in appropriate business, engineering or science discipline.

Membership of an accredited body relevant to the business (e.g. Project Management Institute).

Experience Competencies

Minimum 10 years’ experience in senior management positions in technical service organisations (preferably of a similar size and type as EM&I), preferably in Brazil.

Proven record of managing a technical service business with very high growth rates and demonstrating sustained high performance over at least a 3 year period.

Proven track record in delivering technical, high margin services to major clients such as Petrobras, Equinor, MODEC, Shell, and SBM.

Proven track record of strong working relationships with senior representatives of major clients, regulators and classification societies.

Proven understanding and ability to manage multi-company project based regions using project based financial reporting and aggregation reports, profit and loss management accounts, balance sheets, sales forecasts, cash flow forecasts, WIP and debt reports, and similar (working with the CFO and their team to understand taxation in Brazil, Guyana, and/or Mexico and potentially other South American countries would be an advantage).

Proven understanding and ability to manage client and supplier contracts and disputes.

Excellent oral and written communication skills in technical and business English and Brazilian Portuguese.

Proven ability to build, motivate and lead a strong team of technical, operational, and administrative personnel.
