You will be responsible for translating consumer needs into product requirements & technical parameters to launch delicious and nourishing products for CARICAM and South Cone. We are looking for a hands-on food product developer that has a passion for food science and is both, highly creative and technically oriented.

Its impact

  • Lead Innovation, TBS, Productivity and portfolio transformation agenda for grains category for CARICAM & South Cone and build the future of the platform to deliver growth and SOM through close working and partnership with R&D disciplines and business and SC teams to ensure a robust, safe and legal product design. Validate economic evaluations on ingredients, suppliers, and formulations.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects and project types, develop work streams, define resource needs, and drive alignment. Build and Track R&D budget.
  • Design and execute experiments. Analyze and interpret data to make sound technical recommendations on product and process issues.
  • Coordinate production at bench top, pilot plant, and manufacturing levels for shelf life, stability, sales samples, scale-up, and other needs. Guide Product formulations development that leverages expertise in food chemistry and food ingredient functionality.
  • The role involves managing priorities within direct team and across multiple commercial and business stakeholders leveraging expertise inside and outside the organization to deliver against commercial plans.
  • Support cross functional teams through Stage Gate process from Feasibility to Execution while ensuring a robust product & process design and support technical and business risk assessment/perspectives.
  • Project Management - Develop and execute complex projects utilizing technical project management tools and skills to ensure objectives are accomplished on time, to the agreed standards and within budget.
  • Clearly articulating and aligning technical development needs to influence the wider R&D organization to develop the correct future fit solutions.
  • Proactively challenging the suitability and performance of product designs to maintain a competitive advantage in terms of product acceptance, unique product design, cost of goods etc.
  • Heavy interaction and direct engagement with Contract Manufacturing & Ingredient Suppliers.
  • Actively participate in Marketing, Consumer Insights and Sensory and Consumer Experience Research to ensure data driven product design.
  • Proactively progress the Pep+ agenda from all aspects of our targets.
  • Support talent development by providing guidance and oversight to team members and maintain focus on people growth.
  • Represent R&D on multi-functional business teams comprised of individuals from a variety of disciplines, including Marketing, Purchasing, Engineering, and other groups.
  • Travel ~20%
Qualifications

Who Are We Looking For?

  • BSc in food engineering, material science, food/dairy science, chemistry or other related disciplines; >5 years’ experience with a Company Packaged Goods company with min 3 years in Research and Development.
  • Deep knowledge of ingredient function, formulation, mass balances -Process development – Knowledge of grain-based products; oatmeal, ready to eat cereal, pancake mix, baked products.
  • Project Management – experience managing technical projects for several complexities, setting up the agenda and building timelines to meeting deadlines.
  • Strong working knowledge of experimental design & product development protocols (from concept to execution), including formulation, stability testing, product/package interaction, and sensory and consumer testing methodology.
  • Detail oriented scientist who can manage and partner across R&D functions during product development life cycles that include new idea generation, prototype development, product optimization, production start-up and national launching of new product.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, think with empathy, and goal oriented.
  • Proven analytical skills to interpret complex data and translate into meaningful information e.g. interpreting consumer insights, experimental design and statistical inference and ability to disseminate to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Influence others through strong communication & interpersonal skills and outstanding teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment as well as manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Adapts to change, flexible to work in a high-performance and ever-changing environment. Demonstrates personal leadership to influence and positively motivate self and peers.
  • Strong organization, documentation, and Knowledge management skills.
