Job Description: Project Engineer

Under general guidelines and/or supervision, the Project Engineer is responsible for proposing, planning, coordinating, and controlling small projects involving technical systems, and participating in larger, more complex projects. They provide technical and non-technical guidance to ensure systems are technically sound and economically viable. The role involves assisting in developing solutions and resolving complex problems through ingenuity and creativity.

1. Provide project leadership for relocations, modifications, alterations, or manufacturing processes.
2. Establish requirements with customers.
3. Develop project plans including scope, schedule, cost estimates, and acceptance criteria.
4. Establish and lead sub-teams, collaborating with Operating Divisions, plants, and management; act as an effective team member on broader teams.
5. Demonstrate technical leadership and expertise in your discipline, with exposure to other engineering fields.
6. Participate actively in project meetings, documenting key issues, actions, and decisions.
7. Engage in all project phases: initiation, planning, implementation, control, and close-out.
8. Provide regular project updates to managers and stakeholders.
9. Coach and share expertise with other engineers, seeking coaching as needed.
10. Promote continuous improvement within the organization.
11. Advocate for safety within your area of responsibility.
12. Participate in project reviews and share lessons learned.
13. Recognize and recommend acknowledgment for team members.
14. Report directly to the project manager on project outcomes.
15. Contribute to projects with significant financial or strategic impact.
16. Adapt work style for global operations, leveraging multicultural experience.

Qualifications:

• B.S. in Engineering or equivalent technical degree.
• Progressive experience in global technical and project leadership.
• Proficiency in engineering principles and project management tools.
• Ability to lead matrixed teams and deliver on scope, time, and budget.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
• Team-oriented with strong influencing skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills, familiar with quality tools like Kepner-Tregoe and Performance Excellence.
• Basic IT skills: MS Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint; knowledge of MS Project or similar tools.
• Results-driven with strong communication skills.
• Conflict management skills, seeking win-win solutions.
• Experience across multiple business areas or technical organizations.
• Network within the global technical community and with external partners.
• External recognitions such as Green/Yellow/Black Belt, Lean, PMI, or membership in technical societies.
• Future consideration for Project Management Certification.
