Project Coordinator Combating Deforestation in Brazil (m/f/d)
Your tasks
Being long-time experienced in international cooperation and familiar with the realities of civil society you will manage the Networks4conservation project and provide strategic support for political processes:
- You will coordinate the implementation of the Networks4conservation project in close cooperation with all consortium partners and effectively bring together different perspectives.
- You will be responsible for designing the content of political cooperation, capacity building and strategic communication in the project.
- You will accompany processes of internal control, support project planning and quality assurance, while ensuring consistency between the various project areas.
- You will lobby the project within political, civil society and church networks, while promoting constructive dialogue at national and international level.
- You will monitor political developments in the areas of environment, land rights and climate in Brazil, and work towards making the social relevance of the project visible.
- You will report on experiences and results in such a way that they contribute to joint learning and further development within the project network which shall be incorporated into the communication with funding partners.
- Together with Caritas Brazil, you will be co-responsible for establishing and further develop the project office of Caritas international and provide technical support to the local team.
Your profile
- You have a university degree in environmental, forestry, social or political sciences, international cooperation or a comparable field.
- You command over several years of experience in managing and supporting complex international (development) cooperation projects.
- You are familiar with the political and institutional framework conditions of Brazil, particularly in the areas of environment, climate and land use.
- You have experience in cooperation with civil society, church and state stakeholders, both at local and political level.
- You have knowledge of working with traditional communities, indigenous groups or smallholder structures.
- Your command of Portuguese and English is excellent as you communicate confidently in these languages and feel comfortable in these specific intercultural contexts.
- You work in a structured and responsible way - with a clear sense of political contexts and perspectives on justice.
- You are a citizen of the EU or Switzerland and identify with Christian values.
An extension of the position for up to 4 years is being sought.
Your work with AGIAMONDO and Caritas Germany
Responsible and challenging
Caritas Germany, the aid organization of the German Caritas Association, is preparing the Networks4conservation project together with Caritas Brazil and other partners. The aim is to curb deforestation in five Brazilian biomes, promote socio-biodiversity-based value creation and improve the political framework for fair, sustainable land use. The project is funded as part of the International Climate Initiative (IKI) and combines civil society engagement, political cooperation and ecological transformation.
