UNDP Brazil seeks a Programme Assistant in the Environmentally Sustainable Development Unit to support project implementation and coordination. You will assist in planning, documentation, and financial oversight to advance climate, biodiversity and sustainability initiatives.
With a focus on RBM tools and data management, you will work closely with partners and the Programme Specialist to ensure timely, compliant delivery of development activities in Brazil.
Organizational context: The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Country Office in Brazil partners with the government and civil society to foster a sustainable and inclusive society. It focuses on strengthening democratic institutions, improving governance, reducing poverty and inequality, and addressing climate change. The Environmentally Sustainable Development team, within the larger Programme Team, leads innovation and provides policy advice in this area.
Job purpose: The Programme Assistant provides crucial support to the Environmentally Sustainable Development Unit, assisting the Programme Specialist in managing a portfolio of projects. This role is integral to the smooth implementation of UNDP's development initiatives in Brazil, particularly those focused on environmental sustainability, climate change, and biodiversity. The position ensures effective administrative and operational coordination, supports programme planning and documentation, manages project data, facilitates communication with partners, and contributes to financial oversight and resource mobilization efforts, ultimately enabling the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Responsibilities: Provide administrative and operational support for programme/project implementation, including collecting background information for planning documents like CCA, UNSDCF, and CPD. Assist in preparing and formatting programme documents, work plans, and budgets. Support the application of Results-Based Management (RBM) tools through data organization. Update and maintain project data in the Quantum system and follow up with implementing partners. Compile information for audits and support follow-up actions. Review and compile financial and programme reports, and prepare routine administrative documentation. Maintain filing systems, process requisitions, and assist with budget checks and expenditure tracking. Support programme asset management. Assist in preparing, revising, and monitoring project budgets and financial implementation. Extract, consolidate, and analyze financial reports. Process transactions in Quantum, ensuring data accuracy. Support periodic financial reviews and ensure compliance with UNDP and donor requirements. Assist in resource mobilization by compiling donor information and tracking contributions. Support knowledge building and sharing by organizing training and compiling lessons learned.
Education: Secondary education is required. A university degree (bachelor's) in Administration, Accounting, Finance, Economics, International Relations, International Cooperation, or Biological Sciences is desirable but not mandatory. Fluency in Portuguese and English is required.
Work experience: Minimum of 4 years of relevant professional experience with secondary education, or 1 year with a bachelor's degree. Experience should be in programme/project support, administration, or operations, preferably within international organizations, the public sector, or development cooperation.
