Offer Description

We have a post-doctoral position available in a joint project between Ghent University (Belgium) and the Brazilian Synchrotron Light Laboratory (LNLS), focused on optimizing acquisition and reconstruction methods for high-speed tomography. With the new direct X-ray detector on the MOGNO beamline, it is possible to acquire data at many frames per second, enabling localized and time-resolved analysis.

The researcher will design and conduct experiments tailored to ultrafast tomography, as well as search for, adapt, and develop reconstruction algorithms from the scientific literature for spatiotemporal (4D) data. Responsibilities include developing preprocessing strategies in the detector domain and performing localized reconstructions in Regions of Interest (ROIs), aiming for efficient analyses without the need to reconstruct entire volumes.

A PhD in fields such as image processing/reconstruction, scientific computing, applied mathematics, engineering physics, computational physics, or related areas is required. Experience in scientific software development and programming in Python, C/C++, CUDA, Numba, or PyTorch is essential.

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research at Latin America’s only synchrotron light source, within an innovative and collaborative environment.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
