Offer Description

High voltage dynamic cables used for power transmission in offshore environments are currently limited to 66kV. This project will conduct a systematic study on dielectric materials used in the construction of submarine cables, with the aim of evaluating their use in the design of dynamic cables with nominal capacity above 66kV.

Requirements:

- Solid background in Engineering, PhD or DSc in Mechanical/Materials Engineering or related;

- Ability to collect and critically analyze the state of the art related to the project needs;

- Organizational, planning and communication skills (oral and written)in Portuguese and English;

- Background on physical and chemical properties of polymeric materials and their applications to structures subject to offshore environment;

- Knowledge of experimental characterization of mechanical properties of dielectric materials, with understanding of their behavior and long-term failure risks;

- Skills in modeling structures and knowledge of structural mechanics;

- Background on finite element computational tools, programming languages, preferably Python.

This research scholarship is offered by the Offshore Technology Innovation Center (OTIC), an Engineering Research Center (ERC) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in partnership with Shell Group and hosted by the University of São Paulo's Engineering School (POLI-USP) in São Paulo city, Brazil.

Potential candidates will be invited for interview.

Prepare an e-mail to otic.jobs@usp.br , adding “Application to [PD1/LCP4]” to the subject line.

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
