Offer Description

Enzymatic degradation of exopolysaccharides (EPS) from microbial biofilms (BFs) involves the action of several classes of enzymes active on complex carbohydrates (CAZymes), as well as proteases and DNAses. This action can result in a greatly increased sensitivity of bacteria to antibiotics and antimicrobial treatments.

The general objective of this project is to conduct biochemical and structural studies of CAZymes with potential in the degradation of EPS from microbial BFs as well as oxidative enzymes from AAs families.

The candidate must have experience in Molecular Biology, cloning, heterologous production of recombinant enzymes and their purification and characterization. Knowledge of CAZymes and fermentation techniques for recombinant protein production is desirable. The selected candidate will be based at the University of São Paulo's São Carlos Institute of Physics (IFSC-USP) in Brazil.

For the development of this project, the researcher will be subsidized with a post-doctoral scholarship, provided by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP), with a duration of 6 months and a monthly fee of R$ 12.000,00. Financial aid (Technical Reserve) equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the scholarship will be granted for expenses directly related to research activities. The requirements and benefits are available on the FAPESP website at fapesp.br/en/postdoc .

Applicants should send their CVs and recommendation letters to Professor Igor Polikarpov to e-mailipolikarpov@ifsc.usp.br .
