Offer Description

The Department of Physics at the São José do Rio Preto campus (Brazil) of the São Paulo State University (UNESP), in collaboration with the Federal University of Alfenas (UNIFAL) and the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), is offering a post-doctoral position in a project focused on developing heterogeneous biocatalysts based on Thermomyces lanuginosus lipases immobilized on metal-doped nanometric zeolites. The project aims to establish sustainable catalytic routes for biodiesel production from lipids of microalgae (Monoraphidium sp., Nannochloropsis oculata, Chlamydomonas sp.) cultivated in falling-film photobioreactors, replacing conventional homogeneous catalysis and eliminating extraction steps.

The selected candidate will be responsible for synthesizing and characterizing biocatalysts, enzyme immobilization, developing hybrid catalysts, performing hydroesterification and transesterification reactions at bench and pilot scale (fixed-bed or batch reactors),as well asproduct analysis by chromatography and spectroscopy, and preparing technical reports and scientific manuscripts. Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biotechnology, or related fields, with experience in materials synthesis, heterogeneous catalysis, and enzyme immobilization. Working language: English (for foreigners) or Portuguese (for Brazilians).

This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
