The aim of the proposal is to produce materials from fungal mycelium. The activities include selection of food by-products to be used as culture media, formulations, processing on a lab scale, material characterization.
Applicants must hold (or be about to obtain) a Ph.D. degree in Biotechnology or related fields, with experience in the development of biotechnological materials, as demonstrated by their master’s dissertation, doctoral thesis, and publications—preferably as first author—in at least two of the following areas: biotechnology or food science and technology. Recent Ph.D. graduates (degree obtained in 2022 or later) with a strong publication record will be given preference. Candidates must provide evidence of a minimum of six months of international research experience at an institution outside their home country. Experiences during undergraduate or master’s studies will not be considered for this requirement.

The fellow will be based in São Carlos (São Paulo state, Brazil) at EMBRAPA Instrumentation, one of the decentralized units of the Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA).
This opportunity is open to candidates of any nationality. The selected candidate will receive a Post-Doctoral fellowship from the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
