Offer Description

The Center for Favela Studies (CEFAVELA), a Research, Innovation and Dissemination Center (RIDC) supported by the São Paulo Research Foundation (FAPESP) and based at the Federal University of the ABC (UFABC) in Brazil,is accepting applications for a post-doctoral fellowship position within the project “Analysis of Urban Upgrading Programs and Projects in Favelas: Possibilities, Limitations, and Challenges.”

The call is open to both Brazilian and international applicants who hold a PhD degree awarded no more than seven years prior to the application deadline. Applications must be submitted by June 25, 2025.

The project intends to develop a methodology to evaluate upgrading projects through a broad approach that covers issues such as:

• Characterization of housing conditions;

• Integration of housing units and their needs for improvements;

• The design of the urban fabric;

• The alignment with infrastructure projects;

• Risk elimination and mitigation; and

• The integration of favelas within the broader dynamics of cities in which they are located.

The selected candidate will receive a FAPESP Post-Doctoral fellowship in the amount of R$ 12,000.00 monthly and a research contingency fund, equivalent to 10% of the annual value of the fellowship which should be spent on items directly related to the research activity.
