Role - Operations Manager (Sao Paulo - Brazil)

Currently House of Shipping is recruiting for a Operations Manager on Behalf of its client in Sao Paulo Brazil.

Job purpose

The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing and streamlining logistics operations to ensure the efficient, timely, and cost-effective movement of goods, while upholding service quality and regulatory compliance. This role includes managing day-to-day activities, coordinating with suppliers, carriers, and customers, and optimizing resource utilization to meet business goals. The Operations Manager also leads the operations team, addresses logistical challenges, and drives continuous improvement initiatives to enhance productivity, safety, and customer satisfaction.

Additionally, the Operations Manager is tasked with coordinating the following activities with agents in East Coast South America (Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay).

Main tasks and responsibilities

Operational Management

• Vessel Handling: Liaise with ports to ensure smooth and efficient vessel operations.
• Load & Bay Plan Coordination: Work with VSA partners or third-party operators to monitor and optimize load plans and bay plans.
• Equipment Flow & Inventory Management: Coordinate with depots and ICDs to manage FIFO (First-In, First-Out) processes, reducing storage charges.
• Seal Management: Ensure proper control and compliance with security seal requirements.
• Container Release & Tracking: Manage container releases with accuracy and timeliness, ensuring smooth cargo movement.
• Equipment Maintenance & Repair (M&R): Oversee maintenance operations to ensure operational readiness of equipment.

Process Improvement & Compliance

• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all operational activities adhere to local and international shipping regulations.
• Cost Optimization: Identify opportunities to reduce costs associated with equipment handling and logistics.
• Operational Efficiency: Continuously evaluate and implement process improvements in shipping, warehousing, and distribution.
• Performance Monitoring: Track operational metrics and take corrective actions to ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met.

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

• People Management: Provide leadership, supervision, and direction to the operations team.
• Cross-Functional Coordination: Work closely with commercial, pricing, and sales teams to align operations with business goals.
• Customer & Vendor Relations: Engage with customers, vendors, and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery.
• Crisis Management: Handle operational disruptions, ensuring minimal impact on business and customer commitments.

Work Experience

Feeder, shipping line, or maritime industry mandatory

Operations Manager or similar leadership role in shipping and logistics.

7-10 years of experience, with at least 3 years in a managerial or assistant managerial position.

Deep understanding of shipping laws, port operations, and cargo handling regulations.

Office-based with frequent on-site visits to ports, depots, and logistics hubs.

Regular travel to ports and vendor sites as required.

Education requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Engineering, or a related field.

Certifications & Training | Preferred certifications in logistics, supply chain management, or shipping. Training in equipment flow optimization and data management is desirable.
