About the role

Memory Ware, a fully remote studio founded in 2024, is seeking a Level Designer to craft engaging environments for our JRPG-inspired projects. You will work closely with cross-disciplinary teams to develop exploration maps, combat encounters, and narrative set-pieces that enhance storytelling and gameplay flow.

Responsibilities

1. Design and block out exterior and interior 3D spaces focusing on layout, flow, and sightlines.
2. Create innovative levels that integrate mechanics and narrative seamlessly.
3. Collaborate with Art and Narrative teams to ensure cohesive game experience.
4. Use Unity to prototype and iterate level designs.
5. Maintain detailed documentation for levels.

Qualifications

1. Experience in designing levels with exploration, narrative, or tactical elements.
2. Strong understanding of space, flow, and pacing.
3. Proficiency in Unity and 3D environment prototyping.
4. Empathy for player experience and storytelling.
5. Familiarity with JRPG structures like dungeon design and overworld pacing.

Bonus Skills

• Experience with turn-based combat spaces.
• Knowledge of environmental storytelling and spatial narrative.
• Technical skills in camera scripting and modular workflows.
