The Legal Support Officer is an intermediate level, non-attorney role responsible for regulatory monitoring, identifying, and analyzing changes to the regulatory environment, including new laws, rules, regulations, or modifications to existing ones.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support related to legal operations, litigation, discovery, settlements, or contract administration.
- Manage the execution, review, processing, and tracking of legal documentation, execute transactions, and handle work requests from multiple sources with potential complexity and tight deadlines.
- Implement legal programs and projects to improve processes and support legal support solutions; collaborate with other control/functional teams on initiatives.
- Conduct independent research and analysis, applying institutional knowledge and understanding of laws, rules, and regulations to identify legal solutions or formulate strategic recommendations.
- Understand how associated risks differ depending on product and documentation in relevant jurisdictions, advising the Risk function and business partners accordingly.
- Maintain detailed records, stay updated on regulatory and legal issues, and industry initiatives.
- Engage with senior leaders and internal/external peers to gather information and work closely with management to determine legal strategies.
- Assess risks appropriately in business decisions, ensuring compliance with laws and regulations, safeguarding the firm's reputation, and escalating issues transparently.
Qualifications:
- 5-8 years of relevant industry experience, preferably with in-house legal experience within financial services.
- Fluency in English required; knowledge of Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to manage complex documentation with organization and attention to detail.
- Excellent interpersonal and project management skills; effective communication with senior management.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
- In-depth knowledge of legal customs and practices.
- Understanding of the financial services industry.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree or higher; Law degree preferred but not required. Relevant fields include Economics, International Relations, Accounting, Finance, Public Administration, etc. Master's degree preferred.
