Job summary

Saab Brasil Ltda. in São Paulo seeks a mid-level in-house counsel to join our Brazilian legal team, focusing on contracts, negotiations and business-minded legal advice.

You will support the full contract lifecycle, draft and review agreements, manage public procurement matters, and collaborate with Saab teams in Brazil and abroad on strategic initiatives.

The ideal candidate is OAB-registered, fluent in English, a capable generalist who can work independently and advise senior management.

Qualifications

Job description

We are hiring a Mid-level In-house Counsel for Saab Brasil! We are looking for a legal generalist with strong experience in contracts and business acumen to take on a newly created mid-level role within our legal structure in Brazil. You will work closely with our business teams, providing legal support for proposals, contracts and customer negotiations. Location: São Paulo/SP, Brazil Work arrangement: Four days in the office and one day working from home per week. Expected start date: January 2027

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Support the entire contract lifecycle, from legal analysis and proposal preparation to negotiation and ongoing contract oversight.
• Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, participate in customer meetings and help develop solutions that meet business needs.
• Support public procurement and tender processes, particularly opportunities involving the Armed Forces.
• Identify legal risks and propose alternatives to protect the company’s legal interests and secure better contractual terms.
• Act as a trusted legal advisor to business teams and senior leadership, supporting strategic and operational decision-making.
• Take direct responsibility for compliance matters, supporting adherence to regulations, internal policies and ethical standards.
• Support corporate, governance and other legal matters related to the business.
• Collaborate with different Saab teams in Brazil and abroad, with potential involvement in contracts and other matters related to the Gripen programme.
• Help establish and improve local legal processes.

REQUIREMENTS

• A degree in Law and active registration with the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB).
• Solid experience in reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial agreements.
• Experience in public contracts, public procurement and tender processes.
• Strong understanding of Brazilian public procurement legislation, including Law 14.133/2021.
• Commercial mindset and ability to provide practical, business-oriented legal advice.
• Fluency in English for meetings, negotiations, document review and interaction with the international legal team.
• A generalist legal background, with the ability to handle matters independently and recognise when specialist support is needed.
• Strong communication, negotiation and organizational skills, combined with business acumen.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience in the defense industry or in projects and contracts involving the Armed Forces.
• Experience working in international environments and with international agreements.
• Spanish language skills.
• A postgraduate qualification in Law.
