The Environmental Coordinator (EC) will be responsible for supporting environmental compliance at the GIG1 Amazon Fulfillment Center in São João do Meriti-RJ. The EC will assist in implementation and enforcement of standards and policies to support environmental and regulatory compliance and provide guidance for operations, maintenance and construction teams. The individual will complete environmental inspections and performance analysis, monitor metrics, and assist teams in implementation of Amazon environmental standards. The EC will work with internal and external partners that include government entities, contractors, consultants, design, construction, operations and other key stakeholders.

This is a hands-on position that includes time spent in the yard and on the floor of a busy fulfillment center conducting inspections and audits; taking samples; providing guidance to other employees; ensuring proper waste classification; and dealing with multiple departments and all levels of employees throughout the operation.

*This is a full onsite/in-person role.


Key job responsibilities
- Assist with compliance of local, state, and federal environmental regulations and Amazon policy;
- Assist in driving an environmentally responsible culture within the organization;
- Assist and support thorough and accurate environmental audits for continuous improvement;
- Lead, coordinate and supervise the activities of waste coordinators at the site;
- Prioritize and manage multiple assignments concurrently;
- Represent Amazon at appropriate levels with governmental agencies during inspections;
- Work collaboratively with other Environmental Assurance and Protection (EAP) Team in BR, contractors and consultants to ensure compliance and conformance with the Amazon Environmental System;
- Drive the completion of environmental incident investigations;
- Assist with managing and handling regulated waste programs;
- Tracking of air emissions and other Key Operational metrics related to environmental performance;
- Assist with spill clean-ups and emergency response.

About the team
The Environmental Assurance and Protection team protects Amazon businesses and supports the needs of our customers by proactively mitigating environmental regulatory risks and protecting the environment.- Bachelor's degree
- Experience serving as an environmental technical resource or program specialist
- Proficient with MS Excel, Word, Windows Operating Systems, and Environmental Management Systems
- Experience and ability to dive deep with engineering teams to understand operations process for environmental risk assessment
- Knowledge of Brazilian environmental regulations
- Experience engaging with Regulatory Agency in permit application- Bachelor’s Degree in chemical or environmental engineering, or environmental science or related field of study;
- Preferred advanced English.
