About the Role

Ubuntu Server is the world's most popular Linux distribution for cloud and bare metal. As an Engineering Manager, you will lead the team responsible for managing access to all professional Ubuntu offerings, overseeing software that runs on every major release of Ubuntu, and ensuring continuous integration and verification across releases and platforms.

Responsibilities

• Build and lead a globally distributed engineering team.
• Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development.
• Collaborate with Product Management to define vision and strategy.
• Manage expectations with engineering teams, management, and external stakeholders.
• Promote modern, agile software development practices.
• Develop engineering and organizational practices.
• Foster a collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
• Participate in leadership and engineering reviews.
• Engage with Canonical teams, open source community, and partners.
• Oversee quality and delivery of Ubuntu Server features.
• Work remotely with up to 6 weeks of global travel annually.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in developing and growing engineering teams.
• Strong passion and knowledge of software development.
• 3+ years of leadership and management experience, including managing distributed teams preferred.
• Focus on successful, high-quality software delivery.
• Experience with agile development methodologies.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, STEM, or equivalent.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Experience with GNU/Linux distributions, preferably Ubuntu or Debian.
• Practical experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
