The AppArmor team's primary responsibility is to develop security features and capabilities for AppArmor, the security module protecting all Ubuntu users, by providing mandatory access control to confine programs and restrict their access to system resources. Your work will enhance the security of millions and involve engaging directly with our community and customers, as well as coordinating efforts across multiple engineering teams and projects.

An Engineering Manager is responsible for line management and career guidance. Success in this role requires developing engineering talent, representing your team and product from a technical perspective, and driving collaboration with other teams and stakeholders.

What you will do in this role
  1. Lead and develop a team of engineers, from graduate to senior levels.
  2. Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback.
  3. Identify and measure team health indicators.
  4. Implement disciplined engineering processes.
  5. Represent your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
  6. Develop and evangelize best engineering and organizational practices.
  7. Plan and manage progress on goals and projects.
  8. Collaborate as an active part of the security engineering leadership team.

  • Exceptional academic record from high school and university or a compelling alternative path.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience.
  • Drive and a history of exceeding expectations.
  • Excellent communication skills in English.
  • Passion for developing people and a proven track record.
  • Organized, capable of ensuring timely, high-quality results.
  • Professional demeanor when interacting with colleagues, partners, and the community.
  • Proficiency in C and good understanding of Linux kernel development.
  • Experience with Linux Security Modules.
  • Knowledge and passion for software and application security.

  • Ability to build trust and relationships.
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each.
