Body Builder Support Engineer Associate

We are looking for a Body Builder Support Engineer (Technical Writer) for Volvo Bus

The group mission within the Body Builder Engineering Support Team is to work together with all Product Development areas to ensure Volvo has the preferred chassis for body builders, based on a good understanding of their needs and those of our internal complete buses.

To succeed as a support engineer and technical writer, you should have an interest in how bus body builders work, mechanical structures, welding, machine elements, and electrical engineering. Experience is valuable, but a proactive personality and strong interest are highly important for this role.

Main responsibilities
  • Developing and maintaining the Body Builder Engineering Instructions in three languages (Portuguese, English, and Spanish).
  • Supporting external body builders in their development on Volvo chassis (BEV and Diesel), focusing on mechanical and electrical interfaces.
  • Creating 3D and 2D drawings using CATIA and ensuring proper documentation in Volvo systems (Kola).
  • Conducting weight analysis to ensure technical and legal weight distribution of complete vehicles.
  • Supporting the aftermarket with maintenance and quality issues related to external body builders.
  • Adhering to Volvo standards during the design process, primarily using CATIA.
  • Ensuring the quality of documentation for developed parts.
  • Engaging in maintenance, continuous improvement, and quality initiatives.
Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Experience in sheet metal and mechanical structures development, preferably in automotive.
  • Proficiency in CATIA.
  • Ability to work with electrical engineering, mainly wiring harnesses and component placement.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills in Portuguese and English, both spoken and written.
  • Ability to propose improvements in processes and deliverables.
  • Strong sense of responsibility and teamwork.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the product, connecting cross-functional areas to final delivery.
  • Self-driven with proactive engagement in learning and development.
  • Good organizational and planning skills.
  • Ability to work within local and global cross-functional networks.
  • Fluent in English.
Nice to have
  • Spanish communication skills.
  • 2 to 5 years of experience with heavy-duty vehicles.
  • Experience with Volvo software documentation tools like Kola.
  • Knowledge of bus legal requirements (Passenger Area, Vehicle height).
