A Director of Sales manages the hotel sales and marketing plans by recommending growth efforts, analysing local market trends and competitor activity, monitoring progress, and ensuring that the hotel is competitively positioned within the local marketplace through the development of future and repeat business.

What will I be doing?

As Director of Sales, you are responsible for working closely with the Senior Management Team to drive business needs and expand existing business through promotional efforts and sales channels. You will analyse local market trends and competitor activity to recommend strategies that keep the hotel a leader in the marketplace through the development of future and repeat business. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards.

  • Analyse local market trends and competitor activity to identify business leads and recommend strategies that support the objectives of the business.
  • Manage hotel sales and marketing plans to ensure they accurately interpret and support business goals, focusing sales efforts across all market segments.
  • Develop customer accounts and travel within the local area to drive business into the hotel/cluster and increase market and customer share in all revenue streams.
  • Negotiate room rates and packages with corporate clients in accordance with current business and pricing conditions.
  • Monitor offers, options, and discounts for repeat bookings for groups, congresses, and seminars in close cooperation with the Group Coordinator.
  • Develop and implement creative local marketing channels, including social media, and contribute to company-wide initiatives by recommending and monitoring appropriate local activity.
  • Prepare and manage company contracts in line with business conditions.
  • Organise and deliver comprehensive information describing the hotel’s products and services through relevant sales resources and channels to existing and potential guests.
  • Work closely with the Senior Management Team to identify and drive focused activities on business areas requiring additional support.
  • Direct and manage the forecasting process in conjunction with the Revenue Department to ensure accurate, timely, and complete reporting.
  • Compile and/or direct the preparation of operational reports for the Sales Department, including forecasts, lead management, and booking reports.
  • Actively participate in the preparation of the annual Sales and Marketing Plan, quarterly updates, and hotel budgets; implement strategies to address market shifts, economic changes, or competitive pressures.
  • Attend and/or organise sales events, group meetings, and other relevant commercial activities.
  • Cooperate with other departments, particularly Reservations and Banqueting, to create exceptional guest experiences and develop strong, comprehensive sales programs.
  • Recruit, manage, train, and develop the Sales team through leadership and by example, ensuring their future success.
