Description:

The Brazil Settlements Operations team, as a shared service in the Branch Ops Americas, supports the Latin America IED, PB/IPB, FID, FXEM, GCM, and IBD covering the following main products: Cash Equities, Stock Loan, IPOs, Custody Service, OTC Derivatives, Listed Derivatives, Structured Notes (COEs), Deliverable FX, and Listed Derivatives.

The team is responsible for the client custody services, pre-matching, and settlement process of the MS affiliates trading in Brazil and for the two local regulated entities: Banco Morgan S.A. and Morgan Stanley CTVM S.A. Among others, the team works closely with other areas related to trade capture, trade registration in the market, trade monitoring and exceptions management, lifecycle events, funding and cash management, monitoring, trade affirmation, retrieval of trade confirmation, and trade settlement.

The role requires supporting the Brazil Settlements Operations functions on behalf of the supported entities, to include:

  1. Contribute to refining controls and continuously improving and reducing operational risk for their respective area;
  2. Demonstrate understanding of supporting systems and product/functional workflow of their area and be aware of how their workflow impacts other areas of Operations;
  3. Maintain a clear focus on enhancing control and continuously improving and reducing operational risk;
  4. Partner with colleagues in different areas of the firm to deliver seamless client experience effectively and navigate the firm to resolve client issues;
  5. Articulate thoughts and ideas clearly and concisely using both written and verbal communication methods;
  6. Understand what is important and prioritize accordingly;
  7. Explain their role in identifying, escalating, and preventing risk issues;
  8. Understand the importance of following defined procedures;
  9. Proactively escalate issues as they occur;
  10. Demonstrate understanding of local market product rules and client (internal & external) requirements;
  11. Take personal responsibility for resolving client issues and clearly escalate cause and resolution.

Qualifications:

  1. Ideally, Brazil (bank and/or broker dealer) Settlement Operations experience;
  2. Fluent in English and Portuguese languages;
  3. Proven ability to work as part of a team;
  4. A methodical approach to analyzing/interpreting data and problem solving;
  5. Ability to work under pressure, to time-critical deadlines;
  6. An intrinsic ability to identify priorities and deliver outputs on time to a consistently high standard;
  7. The ability to prepare written reports to a high professional standard alongside effective verbal communication skills;
  8. The ability to communicate clearly and decisively to colleagues and senior stakeholders will be a key candidate attribute;
  9. An ability to think strategically, challenge the status quo, and develop solutions to support the business towards delivering its agenda;
  10. Experience working with Regulators, for example in the interpretation and analysis of information requests, data mining, report preparation, and presentations would be beneficial;
  11. A desire to develop their career at Morgan Stanley by demonstrating willingness over time to develop their role and acquire new responsibilities.
