Job summary

BairesDev is seeking a Database Performance Engineer specializing in PostgreSQL to optimize data systems for sub-second query times and high availability.

You will analyze SQL with EXPLAIN ANALYZE, tune autovacuum, memory settings, and indexing, and collaborate across engineering teams to ensure scalable design.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of experience in Database Engineering, Performance Engineering, or Software Engineering.
• Proven expertise in PostgreSQL performance tuning, query plan analysis, and vacuum optimization.
• Proficiency in using EXPLAIN ANALYZE and pg_stat views to diagnose and resolve performance bottlenecks.
• Hands-on experience with connection pooling solutions and extension-level optimization for PostgreSQL.
• Deep understanding of database internals, indexing strategies, and resource management.
• Advanced proficiency in English.

Responsibilities

• Conduct deep-dive query plan analysis using EXPLAIN ANALYZE to identify and resolve performance hotspots.
• Fine-tune PostgreSQL autovacuum parameters and maintenance tasks to prevent table bloat and manage disk I/O.
• Optimize database configurations and memory settings, such as shared_buffers and work_mem, to align with workload requirements.
• Design and implement advanced indexing strategies and partitioning schemes to improve data retrieval speeds.
• Implement connection pooling and session management strategies to enhance overall system throughput.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to establish SQL best practices and ensure scalable database design.
