HCLTech seeks a Senior technical leader to own the design, development and delivery of COTS solutions, ensuring quality and maintainability. You will guide engineers daily, translate requirements into robust designs and drive secure, production-ready delivery.

Expected to mentor teams, participate in agile ceremonies and collaborate with architects, QA, DevOps and analysts across the lifecycle. A strong focus on performance and upgradeability is essential.

Role Purpose

Lead the design, development and delivery of COTS solutions, owning technical quality for the team: translating requirements into robust designs, guiding engineers' day to day, and ensuring predictable, secure and maintainable delivery into production.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Design & Delivery:

• Own detailed design for COTS components, interfaces and enhancements within the agreed architecture.
• Break down requirements into technical tasks, estimates, sequencing and clear acceptance criteria.
• Deliver hands-on development for complex or high-risk components alongside the team.
• Ensure designs meet performance, security, reliability and maintainability expectations.
• Guide a team of developers on design decisions, coding standards and technical approach.
• Run code reviews, design walkthroughs, defect triage and technical knowledge sharing.
• Mentor engineers, support onboarding and build depth across the COTS skill set.

Quality & Operations:

• Define and enforce unit, integration and regression testing expectations for the team.
• Own build, release and deployment readiness including rollback and verification steps.
• Drive defect prevention, root-cause analysis and permanent fixes over workarounds.
• Work with architects, business analysts, QA, DevOps and support teams across the delivery lifecycle.
• Participate in agile ceremonies, planning, estimation and dependency management.
• Maintain technical documentation, standards and reusable assets for the team.
• Lead configuration, extension and integration of the COTS platform in line with product best practice.
• Drive fit-gap assessments and minimize custom code to protect upgradeability and total cost of ownership.
• Manage vendor engagement for defects, roadmap alignment, patches and version upgrades.

Required Technical Competencies:

• Core Skills: COTS product configuration, extension frameworks, upgrade paths and vendor solution capabilities.
• Design & Architecture: Fit-gap analysis, configuration-over-customization principles, extension design and integration architecture.
• Data & Integration: Product data models, migration and conversion, interface specifications, reporting and reconciliation.
• Platform & DevOps: Vendor release management, environment strategy, patching, licensing and deployment automation.
• Quality & Operations: Functional, regression and upgrade testing; defect management with vendor support and production readiness.

Experience & Qualifications:

• Software engineering with strong COTS expertise.
• Demonstrated experience leading small to mid-sized technical teams through full delivery cycles.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or IT, or equivalent experience.
• Relevant platform or cloud certifications advantageous, not mandatory.
