Job Title: Cost Engineer

Job Description

At Rosebel Gold Mines, we are committed to responsible mining practices that prioritize safety, sustainability, and community development. We are currently seeking a Cost Engineer to join our team.

This role is responsible for preparing, monitoring, and controlling project budgets and cost estimates, as well as overseeing project settlement. You will track project expenditures against budget, forecast costs to complete, and analyze cost variances and their impacts. The role involves maintaining accurate cost data and executing trend management processes, including cost/schedule impact analysis, risk/opportunity assessment, and mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare project budgets and cost estimates in collaboration with engineering and commercial teams.

• Track actual costs, commitments, and forecast expenditures against the approved budget.

• Ensure relevant activities are captured, detail is sufficient, scheduling and constraints are considered, and risks are accounted for with appropriate contingencies.

• Perform variance analysis and produce monthly cost reports with commentary for key stakeholders.

• Monitor contractor and vendor costs, progress claims, and variations.

• Participate in construction acceptance activities.

The ideal candidate will have:

• Relevant tertiary qualification in cost engineering or project management.

• Proven 3 to 5 years’ experience in a Construction or Engineering environment.

Additional Competency Requirements:

• Familiar with Chinese construction standards and Chinese drafting style.

• Proficiency in Mandarin Chinese and English.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and numeracy skills with the ability to identify and explain trend drivers.

• Proficiency with digital budgeting tools.

• Advanced knowledge in engineering, procurement, contracts, construction, and financial reporting.

• Professional level written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to influence and negotiate effectively within a multidisciplinary team environment.

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills; fluent in English, Dutch is an asset.

• A willingness to work on a 14-day on/7-day off rotational schedule in Brokopondo.
