Job Summary
Electrical Engineers will independently design, develop, and implement control systems and equipment for both surface and subsea drilling operations, support upgrades, and drive timely delivery on requisition projects.
Responsibilities
- Support the commercial bid process for customer projects, general requisitions, and lifecycle activities.
- Design, develop, test, and deploy electrical and electronic safety control systems and components, including PLC‑based control systems.
- Perform component selection, manage obsolescence, conduct failure analysis, and implement control system improvements.
- Conduct electronics design, including circuit and board design, classic calculations, and component selection; use simulation tools such as SPICE and MATLAB Simulink.
- Analyze electromagnetic components and their impact on system performance; redesign circuit boards as needed.
- Configure and troubleshoot networking hardware (IP mapping, VPNs, routers, switches).
- Forecast and procure hardware and licenses to support lab testing; navigate PLM systems for project management.
- Work collaboratively with cross‑functional teams to define project requirements, test plans, address supply chain issues, participate in lab testing, and validate activities.
- Ensure proper documentation of all technical data and provide timely communication of significant issues or developments to Engineering Managers and Product Line Leaders.
- Mentor and provide guidance to staff on electronics, simulation, and electromagnetic topics.
Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of circuit‑board design and failure analysis.
- Basic knowledge of electrical cabinet design.
- Familiarity with control system design and electrical component selection.
- Familiarity with controls power distribution and networking technology.
- Familiarity with AutoCAD.
- Product knowledge of oil and gas rigs (onshore and offshore).
- Ability to read electrical schematics and network diagrams.
- Proficiency in multiple disciplines (power, controls, electronics, networks, cybersecurity, motors, VFD, PLC programming, other software languages).
- Working knowledge of design‑for‑reliability techniques.
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills.
- Quick learner of new ideas and processes.
- Advanced English proficiency.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Controls, Computer Engineering, or a related accredited field.
- 3 to 10 years of experience (depending on skill set).
